As experts in family travel, we’re keen to encourage the input of every family member when it comes to holiday planning. So, we decided to ask a focus group of junior travellers about their family holiday preferences, including the accommodation they prefer to stay in while abroad. Choosing the right place to stay can make or break a holiday, and everyone has their own criteria. Whether that be pool or spa (often both); right in the action or away from the crowds; or comfortable room or stellar views. But if you’re feeling adventurous, you can now find a whole host of hotels that offer something slightly out of ordinary; take to the water with a stay in a boatel, hunker down in a capsule hotel or head for the lofty heights of a treehouse.

Walking holidays have undergone a remodel. Gone are the ramshackle refuges that have historically peppered Peruvian peaks, Italian alps and Norweigan fjords and in are tranquil treehouses, country cabins and luxury lodges complete with spas and outdoor hot tubs. We’re dubbing this luxury trekking trend ‘boot-iquing’, and it comes with a swathe of new and refurbished boutique hotels that line some of the world’s best walking trails and national parks.

For some, holidays start the moment they take their seat on the plane. For others, it’s the rush of air that greets them as they file off them. For us, it’s the feeling of slotting shiny keycards into hotel doors and laying eyes on our luxurious new bedrooms for the next few nights (think Kate Winslet’s reaction to Cameron Diaz’s LA mansion in The Holiday, but bigger). And when it comes to holidaying in Sweden, it’s hard not to contain squeals of delight at the sight of Scandi-chic treetop cabins and historic ice hotels.

The country’s culture is not dissimilar, with fermented shark as their national dish, strong beliefs in elves, trolls and fairies, and even a Phallological Museum in its capital (maybe don’t google that one...). This wave of wacky washes over its hotels too, and some of the most unusual hotels in Iceland just so happen to be our favourites.

Two things have become apparent over the course of this Great British Summer. Number one: the aforementioned ""summer"" has been deeply underwhelming; one minute we're baking in glorious sunshine and the next we're ducking for cover from torrential rain. Number two: Team GB has had an absolute stormer at the Olympics and we are positively worn out from all that staying up late, cheering and becoming emotionally invested in events no one actually understands (points race of the Omnium, anyone?

Once an Original Traveller, Aman's Director of Sales for the UK and Scandinavia, Olga Pavlova knows all about what our clients look for in a luxury hotel. I sat down with Olga to get the inside track on all things Aman... What's the best Aman you've ever stayed in? This is like being asked to choose a favourite child! They all have something so unique and authentic to offer - but if I really, really had to choose it wouldn't be just one.
