Grand Hotel Tremezzo

Grand Hotel Tremezzo is a family-owned hotel in the centre of the western shore of Lake Como, opposite Bellagio.

Built in the early 20th century, the Grand Hotel Tremezzo is one of the most renowned hotels of the Italian Lakes region. The main building houses 90 rooms - including 75 standard rooms and 15 suites - many of which have fantastic views over the lake, and there are some family rooms in an adjacent 18th-century villa. All rooms are decorated with vintage furniture, paintings and prints.

Facilities at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo include three outdoor swimming pools: one on the terrace, one in the park, and another floating pool on the lake. There is also an astroturf tennis court, a gym, water-skiing instruction and a spa with an indoor pool, two saunas and a range of massages and treatments on offer. An excellent golf course is just three miles away, and horse riding is available locally. Boat trips are available from the hotel's jetty, and there are bicycles for hire.

Dining options at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo range from a poolside snack bar to a pizzeria in the garden, an informal wine bar and grill, and an à la carte restaurant.

Why We Love It

The hotel is situated in a large private park, adjoining the botanical gardens of the famous Villa Carlotta.

Villa D'Este

The main house, known as the Cardinal's Villa, dates back to 1568 and contains the majority of the rooms and suites, with the rest housed in the nineteenth-century Queen's Pavilion.

All rooms have period furniture, oil paintings and silk-covered sofas and chairs. Some rooms have balconies or terraces, with views of either the gardens or the lake. Villa d'Este combines the luxury and style of a bygone era with up-to-date facilities: as well as the floating swimming pool and sundeck on the lake, guests have access to a sports club with an indoor pool, gym, sauna, Turkish bath and squash court. Sports on offer include water-skiing, sailing and windsurfing, and the hotel also has eight tennis courts and a golf putting green. An excellent 18-hole course is located seven miles away. The hotel has a choice of formal and informal dining options, and there are two bars - one indoors and another on the lakefront terrace beneath the chestnut trees - as well as a nightclub.

Why We Love It

Set on the shores of Lake Como amid 25 acres of parkland, Villa d'Este has been one of the leading hotels of the Italian Lakes region since 1873.
