for each month
As the sun begins to creep its way over the Northern Hemisphere, opportunities for spring holidays emerge by the bucketload. The blooming of cherry blossoms marks the start of the season, and where better to see them at their beautiful best than in Japan or South Korea? If you’re eager to celebrate Easter, head to Spain or Latin America for Semana Santa celebrations galore. And if it’s a blast of sunshine you’re after, Morocco and Egypt bask in just-right temperatures before the sweltering summer heat kicks in. Much of the Southern Hemisphere is cooling down, so South Africa and Australia are top spring picks, while closer to home, Europe is warming up with ideal city sightseeing weather.
Where to go in SpringSummer is when Europe shines its brightest – think sparkling seas, sunny skies and long balmy evenings spent outside. Head to the Mediterranean for (almost) guaranteed sunshine, where you can escape the tourist crowds by seeking out secluded corners in popular destinations like Greece, Italy and Spain. Or venture to Scandinavia for wildflower-dotted landscapes, charming coastal towns and the natural phenomenon of the midnight sun. And Europe’s not the only place to spend the summer months – North America is ripe for a road trip and there are plenty of places in Asia and the Caribbean where you can safely dodge the monsoon season.
Where to go in SummerAutumn may be the season of hunkering down ahead of the colder months at home, but further afield, there’s plenty to explore, whether you’re ready to embrace the new season or are stubbornly holding onto summer. Those in the latter camp can chase the sun to an idyllic Indian Ocean island, or seek out spring in the Southern Hemisphere – New Zealand’s national parks are blooming at this time of year, and Patagonia is a hiker’s paradise. If you’re ready for cooler days, enjoy a cultural sojourn in Europe or admire the best of the autumnal scenery in the USA or Japan.
Where to go in AutumnWhen it comes to winter holidays, you can either lean into the chill with a snow-covered adventure in the Northern Hemisphere, fly south to a sunshine-filled paradise or to the sprawling plains of Africa. In the north, meet Father Christmas in Lapland, hunt for the Northern Lights across Scandinavian skies, or snowshoe and ski your way around the Alps. Further south, summer is in full swing, so you can enjoy a tropical getaway in South Asia and the Indian Ocean or make the most of safari season and balmy temperatures in Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa.
