What you can find in Seychelles that you won't find anywhere else?
The Seychelles have been admirable front-runners in sustainable tourism, making this a thoroughly conscious-salving as well as spoiling luxury holiday destination. Almost half of the Seychelles' total landmass is set aside as nature reserves, with the larger islands having lush vegetation and nature trails to explore. The Seychelles consist of 115 small islands dotted across a broad swathe of the Indian Ocean, but whichever island you choose to spend your luxury holiday on, you are guaranteed to see some of the millions of sea birds who live here or see century old giant tortoises roaming free.
Who is a Seychelles Holiday best for?
Couples (especially honeymooners) in search of a true island idyll. A thousand miles to the west lies Kenya and the two make for an excellent 'bush and beach' combination. The islands are famous for their idyllic white-sand beaches and the pristine coral reefs offer superb snorkelling and decent diving.
Mahe
The main island of Mahe, the largest in the archipelago, is only 16 miles long but offers adventure in abundance. In the Morne Seychellois National Park, some of the prettiest hiking trails weave through dramatic forest scenery and along the coast to secluded beaches. Below water, you can find two of the region’s most famous dive sites; Port Launay, renowned for its stunning beaches and whale sharks sightings, and the Saint Anne Marine National Park, dazzling with coral gardens and the Seychelles’ largest seagrass meadows. Both sites are accessible on a leisurely catamaran cruise. If you’re looking to escape, Mahe is the gateway to private islands such as Desroches, Denis or Silhouette, although honeymooners may find Mahe itself an appealing place to stay with its host of luxurious hotels.
Praslin
27 miles north-east of Mahe, Praslin, the Seychelle’s second largest island, is home to one of the archipelago’s natural wonders. The UNESCO-listed Vallee de Mai is often referred to as ‘primeval forest’ due to the huge swathes of giant palms laden with the famous coco de mer fruit. You can also discover endemic wildlife such as the rare Seychelles black parrot, as well as other unique mammals and reptiles. If it’s idyllic beaches you yearn for, then Anse Lazio couldn’t be more picture-perfect, cradled as it is with granite boulders and lapped by gin clear water, as is Grand Anse, an immaculate two-mile stretch of soft white sand. Whether you wish to stay in a rustic retreat or at a swish resort, Praslin ticks every box.
La Digue
A tropical idyll, a ferry ride away from Praslin, La Digue feels like a natural kingdom stranded in the Indian Ocean. Named after a ship in the French explorer Marion du Fresne’s fleet in 1768, the island remains very much unspoiled. In this sense, La Digue offers one of the truest Seychelles holidays experiences, where nature plays a vital role and small island-living is celebrated – the island can only be explored by bike and foot. Cycling to its beautiful beaches such as Anse Source d'Argent and Anse Patate is almost a rite of passage where you can tread silky white sands and go snorkelling in the sparkling water. If you are short on time, a day trip here is a must.
