Ready to experience not one, but two dreamy island paradises? On this ten-day escape to the Seychelles, adopt a slower pace of life with a combination of rainforest strolls, marine encounters, beachside bliss and tucking into lots of ridiculously fresh fruit (or fruity cocktails, of course).

Your first stop is Mahe, a sun-kissed Eden. Despite being the largest island in the Seychelles, it maintains a calm and tranquil atmosphere, complete with verdant forest trails and a vibrant array of birds, tropical fish and turtles. While you’re here, why not embark on an underwater exploration or two? The crystal-clear lagoon, multi-coloured corals and seagrass meadows are all equally magical, while kayaking along the river (provided you don’t capsize) is a trusty alternative.

Next up? Swap one slice of paradise for another by jetting off to Alphonse Island, 280 miles southwest of Mahe. This tiny green atoll is a secluded sanctuary for wildlife: its exceptional coral reef is full of green turtles, manta rays, whitetip sharks and barracudas, while coconut palms, casuarinas and badamier trees house a medley of endemic (and charmingly vocal) birds. When you’re not enjoying an animal encounter, spend your time soaking up the sun, sinking your toes into the sand and snapping a few photos sure to make friends and family back home jealous.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Your sojourn in the Seychelles starts today. Dig out your swimwear, head to the airport and settle into the lounge, grazing on complementary nibbles while you wait. Flights from the UK to Mahe connect through the Middle East, so with a quick stopover, the whole journey takes between 14 and 18 hours, arriving the following day. Now’s the time to settle in, slip on an eye mask and dream of an island paradise not far from reach...

When you arrive, you’ll be whisked off to your blissful beachfront hotel by a private driver. Unpack, unwind and get acquainted with the place; this is your home for the next five nights (lucky you).

You’ll have plenty of time to explore Mahe over the next few days, so the rest of today can be as relaxed or as energetic as you like. Lounge on the sand, indulge in a spa treatment or, if you’re eager to explore, visit Victoria – the smallest capital in the world.

Sometimes, the most unlikely routes lead to the most amazing views. The Seychelles is known for its stunning natural beauty, so it only makes sense to spend your first full day in Mahe discovering its verdant interior. After tucking into a deliciously fresh breakfast, hop in a 4x4 – accompanied by a clued-up local guide – to explore a network of dirt tracks winding through the island’s lush tropical forests. Along the way, you’ll pass old copra mills, tea and cinnamon plantations, granite formations, waterfalls and remote villages.

Back on the shore, unwind after your island exploration by sinking into the sand, wading into the ocean or reclining with a good book – Robinson Crusoe, anyone?

The next few days are yours to soak up Mahe at your own pace. If you haven’t already explored Victoria (or if you left a few corners undiscovered), now’s your chance. This coastal capital is bursting with charming colonial buildings and notable sights, including the Clock Tower and Victoria Market. To the east, the King’s Garden – a historic garden brimming with local spices – is also well worth a visit.

If it’s beach bliss you’re after, Mahe more than delivers here, too. Beau Vallon, Anse Soleil, Takamaka and Anse Intendance all boast stunning sandy shores, ideal for cultivating a truly enviable tan. Those keen on wading in further should check out the Sainte-Anne and Port Launay national marine parks – top destinations for snorkelling, diving and boat trips.

Craving a more active adventure? Hike in Morne Seychellois National Park, or head out on a private kayaking excursion. As you glide through Mahe’s mangroves, discovering hidden coves and coconut palms, keep your eyes peeled (and cameras poised) for birds along the river.

After a delicious breakfast this morning, bid a fond farewell to Mahe as you’re privately transferred to Seychelles International Airport. You’ll be taking a speedy one-hour flight to Alphonse Island, your own remote paradise for the next three nights.

This evening, once you’ve done a bit of unpacking (and a lot of relaxing), head to the beach to dine on a platter of fresh fish under the stars – and if you haven’t already, prepare to fall in love with Alphonse.

The next few days are yours to play with. Alphonse Island may be a tiny dot in the immensity of the Indian Ocean, but it’s bursting with vibrant nature and lush landscapes. Beneath the shimmering ocean surface, shoals of tropical fish and sea turtles glide through crystal clear waters. And in the island's interior – best explored by bike – some of the rarest birds on the planet trill across the canopy (making it somewhat easier to snap a photo of them).

If Mahe whetted your appetite for underwater adventures, we can arrange for you to snorkel with manta rays between sunbathing stints. You could also swim with lightning-fast sailfish, snorkel with a marine biologist and meet a century-old giant tortoise (yes, really). And if that wasn’t enough, Alphonse Island is also famous for being the best scuba-diving destination in the Seychelles – keen divers, this is the place to do it.

Unfortunately, your secluded stay in the Seychelles comes to an end today. Tuck into one last beachfront breakfast on the beach before the one-hour flight back to Mahe for your connecting overnight flight to the UK. You’ll transit through another Middle Eastern city, so the journey is just over 14 hours in total. Since you won’t arrive home until the following morning, you’ll have plenty of time to lean back, catch some sleep and prepare for questions about where you got that golden glow.

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

HIKE THE MOUNTAINS IN MAHE

Mahe deserves to be explored on foot, particularly where Anse Major is concerned. Nestled in the north of the island, this idyllic, isolated beach can only be reached via a walk through the forest, where rocky ridges boast superb views over nearby Silhouette and North Island. Along the way, look out for tropical birds, such as the bulbul and Seychelles blue pigeon (a far cry from its urban namesake). When you reach the beach, spend a few hours sunbathing, snorkelling and enjoying the scenery before heading back.
