Mixing Mayan and Aztec flavours with Spanish seasoning and French pastry, they’re in a cuisine class of their own. So, it’s no surprise that historic street eats have made their way across the Atlantic in the form of the restaurant chain Wahaca and myriad street food vendors.

The natural sinkholes are formed from the collapse of soluble limestone rock, revealing tranquil groundwater below, and are synonymous with the Yucatán Peninsula, where the majority of the 6,000 or so in Mexico are found.

Sierra Lodge Those in need of the mod-est of mod cons might find Sierra Lodge a little on the spartan side, but it's hard to beat this place for sheer character.
