Mamilla Hotel Just because a city is ancient in the extreme doesn't mean the accommodation there needs to be, and the funky Mamilla Hotel in Jerusalem is a contemporary case in point. Just a few minutes walk from the Old City, the Mamilla has 194 comfortable rooms and suites sporting a range of mod cons including mirrors with inbuilt TVs and liquid-crystal bathroom walls that change from see-through to opaque at the press of a button.

Mitzpe Ramon is a pleasant city; with its avenues lined with palm and eucalyptus trees, it is the ideal place to discover the Negev desert and the Nabatean incense route. Located on the north bank of the Ramon crater, at an altitude of 2,600 feet, it is a new town, founded in 1950 to house the workers constructing Road 40, which links Beer Sheva to Eilat. Jewish immigrants from North Africa and Romania settled there in the 1960s.

We loved Banksy's first foray into tourism : Dismaland, a crazy amusement park in Weston-Upon-Mare, on the outskirts of Bristol. There the artist depicted the disorder of our modern societies, from environmental to migratory crises . You could explore a Cinderella castle that had suffered Lady Di's fate, with overturned coach and crowd of paparazzi, or a duck-fishing game where the birds were slick with oil.
