This chic and cheerful boutique retreat is by far one of the best out of a, let’s face it, pretty good bunch of places to stay in Indonesia. Encircled by volcanoes MesaStila sits in a coffee plantation in Losari, a place which is ripe in jungle and simply stunning scenery.

The retreat has 23 villas peppered throughout the acres of tropical gardens. The villas range in size from smaller Plantation villas and slighter larger Arun Villas to family sized Losari Villas and the cream o the crop Presidential Villa, which not only has a private pool but formerly housed a Javanese Prince. All have elegant interiors and outdoor verandas for soaking up the views of either the coffee plantation or mountains. The rooms are ambitiously eclectic with original Javanese antiques and original art works, which just makes this property that little but more unique.

This place is for the hip and healthy or those aspiring to be the latter. You can spend your days enjoying daily complimentary activities including yoga, plantation walks, jungle gym, water fitness and traditional dance classes. Stress busting facilities include two authentic Hammams, a variety of exceptional wellbeing offerings, Spa treatments that range from intense scrubs and cleanses, to deeply relaxing massages and traditional PencakSilat martial-arts.

With clean living comes clean eating and Java Red and the Sunset Lounge serve up a lean selection of salads and soups, local Indonesian dishes, mockatils, herbal teas, fruit juices and glasses of premium wine. Guests can even take part in healthy-cooking classes, should they fancy a change in their wellness experience.

Why we love it

The view here is mesmerising, surrounded by volcanoes, lush green rice paddies and the sound of the local mosques call to prayer you could not ask for more of a setting.
