Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
Indonesia – Lombok – Bali – Komodo
100% customisable for you
Bags packed, snacks secured and excitement levels officially sky-high – today you and the family are off to Indonesia. Head to the airport, whizz through security and enjoy some drinks and nibbles in the airport lounge before boarding your 17-hour flight to Lombok, with a quick stop in Singapore along the way.
To help the hours fly by, we’ll equip the little ones with our family fun packs, filled with interactive maps and games, keeping inevitable ‘are we there yet’ questions to a minimum…
When you touch down in Lombok, you’ll be met at the airport and whisked away on the one-and-a-half-hour drive to the island’s west coast. Here, you’ll check into your beachfront villa – your home for the next four nights.
The rest of the day is all yours to ease into holiday mode. Perhaps take a stroll through the tropical gardens overlooking the Lombok Strait, or stay put at your villa, where water babies will no doubt make a beeline for the pool. And for grown-ups – how does a spa treatment sound?
A bout of jet lag might have everyone feeling a little sleepy this morning, but once the little ones hear what’s in store today, they’ll likely be up in a flash.
Meet your local guide this morning and set sail for a snorkelling adventure around the dreamy Gili Islands, a trio of palm-fringed isles set just off Lombok’s northwest coast. Slip beneath crystal-clear waters to discover kaleidoscopic coral reefs teeming with tropical fish, keeping your fingers crossed for a sea turtle sighting or two.
Then head ashore at Gili Meno to meet its adorable baby turtles and learn about the inspiring conservation efforts helping them thrive, before casting away to the neighbouring island of Gili Air, where you’ll sink your teeth into a beachfront lunch.
Back in Lombok, enjoy a heavenly out-in-the-sun-all-day nap before seeking out a local warung (restaurant) for a seafood supper. Between bites, settle the all-important family debate: who spotted the most dazzling reef resident today?
Ready to give surfing a whirl? Explore the laid-back town of Kuta this morning before heading to Selong Belanak Beach, where rolling waves and golden sands create the perfect setting for a surf lesson. Your instructor will tailor the experience to every age and ability, so the whole family can enjoy plenty of laughs, some wobbles and a few brilliant ‘did you see that?’ moments as everyone has a go at riding the swell.
Surfing is an appetite-inducing pastime, so quiet rumbling tummies with a loaded plate of nasi goreng (stir-fried rice) come lunchtime. Once energy levels have been replenished, lead your youngsters off the beaten track in search of hidden beaches and the picture-perfect viewpoint overlooking Tanjung Aan Beach.
This evening, bypass any dinner deliberations by asking our local Concierge for a restaurant recommendation. Whether you’ve got adventurous foodies or fussy eaters in tow, they’ll know just the place.
Calling all aspiring marine biologists; today’s adventure comes with a healthy dose of ocean discoveries.
Set sail aboard a traditional fishing boat off Lombok’s southern coast with the inspiring team behind Project Hiu. Established to help former shark fishermen transition into more sustainable livelihoods, the initiative is playing a vital role in preserving the region’s marine life. As you cruise along the coastline, hear first-hand stories from the fishermen themselves and witness the positive impact of their work, with thriving coral reefs and abundant sea life all around you.
Hopefully the experience leaves a few tweens and teens dreaming of becoming the next generation of conservationists…
Bid a fond farewell to Lombok this morning as you’re whisked away on the 30-minute drive to the airport. Here, bundle the little ones onto the plane for your one-hour flight to Bali, where sparkling waters and coral-lined shores provide plenty to admire from above (cue the inevitable debate over the window seat).
When you land, you’ll be privately transferred to your villa in Tulamben, a dinky fishing village, nestled on Bali’s northeast coast, where you’ll be staying for the next three nights. After checking in, take a stroll along the beach, where youngsters can search for iridescent shells, while parents soak up the oh-so glorious sunshine.
Then take the plunge in Tulamben Bay for a private diving lesson, tailored to your family’s ages and experience level. Thanks to PADI’s Bubblemaker course, children as young as eight can enjoy their very first scuba dive, so the whole family can experience the thrill of gliding alongside sea turtles, sharks and manta rays together. And if your little ones are too young to dive, they can still join the fun by snorkelling in the crystal-clear shallows.
Have a family of thrill-seekers on your hands? You’re in for a real treat today. Strap on your life jackets, grab a paddle and set off down the rapids of the Telaga Waja River for an exhilarating white-water rafting adventure. The route features both calmer stretches, perfect for soaking in the lush surroundings, and thrilling rapids – bound to set the adrenaline flowing.
And after testing your family’s teamwork skills and successfully navigating the river’s twists and turns, tuck into a well-deserved picnic lunch on the riverbank.
The rest of the day is all yours; but we recommend slipping into full R&R mode after the hair-raising escapades of this morning…
After an action-packed few days in Tulamben, it’s time for your next island adventure.
Meet your driver for the private transfer to Denpasar Airport, where you’ll board a one-hour flight to the island of Flores, touching down in Labuan Bajo, the gateway to Komodo National Park. When you land, a short drive brings you to the harbour, where you’ll climb aboard a boat bound for the tiny island of Seraya Kecil. Here, your beachfront resort awaits – your home away from home for the next four nights.
Over the next few days, enjoy plenty of family diving sessions around Flores Island (one of Indonesia’s stand-out scuba spots) keeping score of all the weird and wonderful marine creatures you discover beneath the surface.
No family holiday is complete without a bucket-list big hitter, and Komodo National Park offers just that.
Nestled between the islands of Sumbawa and Flores, in the heart of the Indonesian archipelago, Komodo National Park is best known for its namesake: the legendary Komodo dragons. Join a knowledgeable ranger for a guided tour of the island, keeping your eyes peeled for these giant eponymous lizards roaming freely in their natural habitat.
There’s plenty more wildlife to discover too, from monkeys swinging through the trees and water buffalo grazing the landscape to vivid red crabs scuttling across the shoreline.
Next, set sail for Padar Island and tackle the short hike to its famous viewpoint (the perfect setting for some stunning family selfies – all prime material for the holiday album). Then it’s on to the iconic Pink Beach, where thousands of tiny coral fragments give the sand its distinctly rosy hue.
Today it’s on to the last destination on your Indonesia family adventure – Jimbaran, back in Bali. A private transfer will take you back to Komodo Airport, where you’ll board a one-and-a-half-hour flight to Denpasar.
When you arrive, another private transfer will be waiting to scoop you up and deliver you to your next hotel for a two-night stay, located slap bang in the middle of Jimbaran Bay. This region of Bali is blessed with caster sugar beaches, emerald waters and traditional eateries serving fresh seafood. Again, your villa here has a private swimming pool, so youngsters can splash about to their heart’s content.
And for the final full day of your summer holiday, gather your crew for one last hurrah – a surfing lesson in Jimbaran Bay. Whether you mastered the waves during your previous lesson or are still in need of some assistance, an instructor will be on hand to guide you through the swells.
This evening, toast to your unforgettable family holiday (with fruity mocktails for the little ones) and share your favourite memories over one final Indonesian feast.
Time flies when you’re having fun and, sadly, your journey across Indonesia comes to a close today.
Check that you’ve packed everything (and then check again for good measure) before being privately transferred to Denpasar Airport. Here, board your three-hour flight to Singapore, where you’ll have a quick layover to indulge in a spot of duty-free shopping, before catching your final flight back to the UK, landing early the next morning.
Hopefully, the excitement of the last fortnight will have the whole family dozing off for the 13-hour flight. But if boredom strikes and the little ones are asking for a game, see if you can count up just how many water-based adventures you managed to tick off as a family.
