The perfect balance of relaxation and adventure, quiet and commotion, this two-week Bali and Komodo holiday is sure to be a blast for the whole family. The adventure begins in Belimbing, a verdant village in the heart of Bali. Here, you’ll experience the rhythm of the Balinese and step into awe-inspiring landscapes that are sure to captivate little ones and adults alike.

Next up is Ubud, Bali’s cultural and spiritual hub. Located in the central foothills, the town is famous for its lively markets, wellness retreats and vegan cafes. Here, you’ll take part in a family treasure hunt, searching for a series of clues (doubling as fun facts about Bali) that will lead you to a top-secret prize.

From here, head east to the Komodo Islands where sapphire seas, colourful corals and the eponymous dragon await. Make new memories as a family as you step aboard a charter and sail between dreamy destinations, stopping off to climb verdant slopes in Padar, dive underwater caves in Batu Balong and try to sneak in a bit of holiday reading.

On your return to Bali, stop for a few nights of R&R – if excitable children allow – on Jimbaran’s blissful beaches. Wander warungs (small eateries), enjoy a family surf session and bid the archipelago farewell at the impressive statue of Vishnu, the supreme Lord – who better to see you off on your journey home?

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Your luxury Bali and Komodo family adventure begins today. Rally the little ones and head to the airport for your overnight flight to Denpasar, connecting through the Middle East. To keep spirits high and lethargy low while you’re in the air, don’t forget to dole out our children’s activity packs. Now, you can sit back, relax (hopefully) and dream of the balmy Balinese breeze that will envelop you when you land.

Upon arrival in Denpasar, a private vehicle will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel in Belimbing, roughly a two-hour drive away. Anyone up for a game of I-Spy?

Today is yours for the taking, a pleasant pause allowing you to work off any jet lag and slip into a more relaxed rhythm. Away from the hustle and bustle of Bali’s coastal resorts, you’ll be completely immersed in nature. Pick up a book, stroll around the village or splash about in the hotel pool. We’d wager a game of Marco Polo is even better with tropical bird calls in the background.

The splendour of Belimbing lies in the unspoilt natural beauty of its rice terraces. Today, you’ll stroll through this lush landscape, learning about the ingenious Subak irrigation system as you go (a fun and engrossing way to slip an educational moment under the children’s radar).

Once you’re suitably stunned, head over to the nearby Temuku Pupuan organic farm, home to a vast plantation and friendly staff who are eager to share their practice of organic farming. When little tummies start rumbling, a fresh and locally-harvested lunch will be waiting for you to enjoy among the verdant plains that stretch out as far as the eye can see.

The day ends with an age-old pairing of natural beauty and man-made magnificence. First, head to Blemantung waterfall, a remote site tucked away in the Tabanan Regency. Then, it’s time to head to a nearby Buddhist temple, the perfect place to decompress after a day’s exploration.

Fancy a change of pace? It’s time to swap verdant pastures for bustling streets as you head to Ubud, Bali’s cultural and spiritual hub. It’s a two-hour drive away, and the traffic around the town is notoriously heavy, so a little patience (or kesabaran, as the locals call it) is required. Make the most of this time by dipping back into your arsenal of car journey games as your private driver steers the way.

Once as remote as Belimbing, Ubud is now a lively art town, filled with galleries, studios and museums. It’s become home to many artists over the years, all of whom will be keen to share their inspirations and way of life as you browse their work.

Calling all adventurers. Is there any better way to get to know a place than through a treasure hunt? We don’t think so. Gather the troops and venture into the heart of Ubud in search of treasure. Along the way, a series of clues will lead you from village to village, meaning adults can get their sightseeing kicks while the little ones remain engaged. This is the perfect opportunity to see Bali’s flora and fauna up close, interact with local residents and immerse the whole family in the rich traditions of Balinese life.

We’ve left today free for you to do whatever takes your (or, really, the children’s) fancy.

If you’re feeling energetic, why not explore Ubud on foot? The town is wonderfully walkable, allowing you to really soak up the atmosphere. Spend the day perusing local shops, galleries and museums (our favourites are Neka Ubud Gallery, the Blanco Renaissance Museum and Puri Lakisan Museum). Be sure to sample some local specialities while you’re out there too, stopping off at a warung (small, family-owned business) along the way.

If spirits are still high after lunchtime, head to one of the town’s many temples, including Pura Gunung Lebah, Sarawati and the Royal Palace, before retreating to the hotel to rest and rejuvenate before evening descends.

Tonight is your last night in Ubud, so, if you can, make the most of it by attending a traditional Balinese performance. These cultural displays, hosted by many temples, are a must-see while you’re in the area. Beautifully combining dance, song and theatre, they’re sure to leave a lasting impression on young – and possibly a little sleepy – minds.

This morning, a private vehicle will pick you up and whisk you away on the one-and-a-half-hour drive back to Denpasar airport for your hour-long flight to Komodo. When you arrive, a private transfer will be waiting to take you to your charter – the ideal vessel for exploring the UNESCO World Heritage site of Komodo National Park.

For the next four days, you’ll be sailing the stunning seas of this mythical archipelago, where each island seems to tell an ancient story. Nestled between salt lakes, volcanic landscapes and pink sand beaches, it’s a world as wild as it is spectacular. Life on the water is naturally gentle, but the surrounding splendour is sure to keep eyes glued to the views.

Budding ocean explorers will be in for a treat, as there's ample opportunity for snorkelling among the exceptional marine biodiversity that blooms beneath the water’s surface. Think vibrant coral gardens, schools of tropical fish and even the occasional shark. For experienced divers, there’s also the chance to venture into some iconic sites, including Batu Bolong, Castle Rock and Manta Point.

The Komodo Islands aren’t just a wonder on water, however, there is also plenty to do on land. From scaling the summit of Padar Island and hiking through the savannas of Rinca or Komodo, to (calm and controlled) encounters with the eponymous Komodo dragons, there won’t be a moment’s monotony in this glorious region.

After the aquatic and adrenalin-fuelled adventures of Komodo, it’s time to spend the last few days of your holiday frolicking in the sunshine on the blissful beaches of Jimbaran Bay – a 30-minute drive away. Should you wish to keep the little ones entertained, there are plenty of restaurants and warungs, numerous temples and a huge statue of Vishna (the all-powerful Hindu deity) to discover. If appetites are still unsatiated, we can even arrange a private surf session on Jimbaran’s emerald waters.

Sadly, your Bali and Komodo adventure draws to a close today. After a relaxed morning, bid one final farewell to Komodo before the 30-minute drive back to Denpasar Airport, arriving in plenty of time for your indirect flight to the UK. No need for the activity packs this time; the whole family can share in the rapture of reminiscing about the highlights of your far-flung fortnight in paradise.
