The perfect mix of adventure, culture and switch-off time, this 14-day journey across Bali is designed with families in mind – keeping things varied, engaging and, most importantly, fun for all ages.

Start inland in Ubud, where it’s easy to slip straight into holiday mode. One minute you’re wandering through busy little streets filled with markets and cafés, the next you’re out among emerald green rice fields. There’s lots to get involved in here too – from cooking classes to playful afternoons with local children (expect plenty of laughter).

From here, things slow right down as you head west to Belimbing. This is Bali at its quiet, laid-back best. Think big open landscapes, gentle walks and time spent on a working farm, where little ones can get stuck in, and adults can take a breather.

Finally, it’s on to Jimbaran for a few easy days by the sea. Beach time, temple visits, fresh seafood and sunsets – a simple, feel-good ending to a trip that’s all about spending proper time together.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Your family adventure to Bali begins today. Gather up the little ones and head to the airport for your overnight flight to Denpasar, which will take around 17 hours with a layover. To keep spirits high in the air, don’t forget to dole out our children’s activity packs. Then, you can sit back, relax and dream of the balmy Balinese breeze that will embrace you upon landing.

On arrival, you’ll be welcomed and assisted through the airport before setting off by private transfer towards Ubud (around a one hour drive). Along the way, keep your eyes peeled as the island slowly reveals itself – roadside shrines draped in offerings, scooters weaving through traffic and flashes of vivid green rice paddies.

Arriving in Bali’s cultural heart, the rest of the day is yours to ease into the slower rhythm of island life. Stretch your legs, take a dip in the pool or unwind with a massage.

Today is all about getting your bearings (and a great chance to work off any lingering jet lag).

Ubud is best explored with curiosity (and a little spontaneity). Wander into the centre, where Jalan Raya Ubud hums with life – a lively stretch lined with markets, restaurants, galleries and temples, like the Pura Gunung Lebah and Royal Palace. Along the way, you might stumble across intricate offerings laid carefully on the pavement or hear the distant sound of gamelan music drifting from a temple. Beyond the bustle, the landscape softens. Follow one of the rice field walks just outside town and taste some local specialties in the warungs that border it.

As evening falls, consider heading to a local temple to watch a traditional Balinese performance – a dazzling mix of dance, musicand storytelling that will captivate all ages.

If you like, we can also arrange for you to join a kite-making workshop with a local craftsman – it’s a wonderful experience for little ones to engage with children of the neighbourhood.

Foodies, today’s for you. After a fresh Balinese breakfast, head to a local market in Tampaksiring (around a 30-minute drive away), where colourful stalls overflow with exotic fruit, fragrant spices and unfamiliar ingredients.

From here, continue to a small village set among rice fields, where you’ll be welcomed into a local home for a private cooking experience. Learn the techniques behind traditional dishes, hear stories of everyday life and gain insight into the island’s Hindu traditions.

Then comes the best part – sitting down together to enjoy what you’ve created. Afterwards, take a walk through the village or visit a nearby temple before returning to Ubud.

This morning, take it easy. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast listening to the birds, a splash in the pool, or even book in for a massage. This afternoon, it’s all about connection (and a lot of fun, of course). Spend time with local children as you’re introduced to traditional Balinese games, from bag racing to rope shooting and other light-hearted challenges.

The rest of the day is yours. For curious explorers, there’s the option of a treasure hunt through Ubud or an evening visit to a local night market, where street food stalls serve up everything from grilled skewers to sweet treats.

Today, you’ll leave Ubud behind and travel two hours west in a private transfer towards Belimbing, passing one of Bali’s most spectacular landscapes en route.

Make sure to stop in the Jatiluwih region, home to UNESCO-listed rice terraces that cascade dramatically across the mountainside. With a guide, set out on a gentle walk through this sculpted landscape, learning about the centuries-old irrigation system that sustains it.

Afterwards, pause for a Balinese-style picnic in the shade of a traditional rice granary, followed by the chance for a refreshing dip in a nearby river – a welcome break before continuing your journey.

Arriving in Belimbing, check into your accommodation for the next three nights before taking a leisurely stroll to explore your surroundings. This is rural Bali at its most peaceful.

This morning, after a hearty breakfast, it’s time to get stuck into Balinese rural life. Visit a local farm and spend time getting to know its many inhabitants – from chickens to cows – before rolling up your sleeves to take part in the daily activities. Feed the animals, learn about organic farming methods and discover how crops are grown, harvested and used. It’s an engaging, educational experience for all ages and a chance to see a completely different side of the island.

If energy levels allow, round off the day with a short trip to a nearby waterfall, tucked away in the surrounding jungle.

Lace up your walking shoes this morning for a guided hike through the landscapes surrounding Belimbing. The trail leads through forest clearings, past rice terraces and towards hidden corners of the island, including a small temple tucked deep within the greenery. Along the way, keep an eye out for monkeys and listen for the sounds of flowing water.

Pause for lunch at a local warung, where simple dishes are served with sweeping views across the countryside.

This morning, swap mountains for the sea as you take a private transfer for around two hours south to Jimbaran.

Keep your eyes peeled as you approach the southern tip of the island, because the scenery shifts once again – jungle gives way to open skies, salt-tinged air and glimpses of golden beaches.

Once you arrive, check into your traditional Balinese accommodation that you’ll call home for the next four nights. The rest of the day is yours to settle in and enjoy your coastal surroundings. As evening falls, there’s nothing quite like dinner by the water’s edge, with the sound of the waves and the glow of torchlight setting the scene.

On one day, explore Bali’s southern peninsula. Wander through Garuda Wisnu Kenyan Cultural Park or sample local street food, from bakso (meatball soup) and noodles to grilled skewers served roadside. Then, visit the clifftop temple of Uluwatu, dramatically perched above crashing waves. Time your visit for sunset, when the light turns golden, and the setting feels a little more magical, before staying for a traditional kecak performance – a rhythmic fire-lit dance that will impress the whole family.

The following day, slow the pace and discover Bali’s southern beaches. From hidden coves like Padang Padang to the cave-framed Sultan and the sweeping sands of Nyang Nyang, each offer something different. Try a surf lesson, wander Jimbaran Bay or simply settle in for a day of sandcastle-building and sea dips.

Another day, head to Jimbaran’s lively fish market, where you can wander through a maze of stalls and take in the smells (although the little ones may want to hold their noses). Learn about local produce and have your fresh catch grilled at a nearby warung.

Sadly, your Balinese adventure has come to an end. After a final relaxed morning, take a transfer back to Denpasar Airport (around 30minutes) for your evening flight to the UK, which takes around 17 hours with a layover You’ll arrive home the following day, full of memories of rice terraces, village life, temple sunsets and beach days. The question everyone will be asking is, where to next?

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

BALINESE KITE MAKING

Kite-flying is a big deal in Bali, and once you’ve seen the sky filled with giant, colourful creations like dragons and fish, you’ll understand why. During this private workshop, spend time with a local craftsman who’ll show you exactly how it’s done. Together, you’ll cut, assemble and glueyour very own kite. It’s hands-on, a little messy (in a good way), and surprisingly satisfying. If you’re lucky, local children might join in after school and show you how to get your creation up in the air.

TREASURE HUNT NEAR UBUD

This isn’t your average sightseeing day. Instead, you’ll set off on a family-friendly treasure hunt through villages, rice fields and hidden corners you’d never find on your own. Following a series of clues, piece together fun facts about Bali as you go – learning about local traditions, wildlife and everyday life. There’s a relaxed local lunch included along the way, plus snacks to keep energy levels up as you crack the final clues.

NIGHT MARKET & STREET FOOD TASTING

Spend an evening soaking up the atmosphere at a local night market – whether in Ubud or Gianya – where things feel busy, colourful and brilliantly chaotic. Wander past sizzling food stalls, bright displays of tropical fruit and rows of small warungs (authentic, family-run eateries) serving up local favourites. With your guide on hand, you’ll get to try a bit of everything, from warming bowls of noodles to skewers fresh off the grill, while learning what’s what (and what’s worth going back to for seconds).

SURF LESSONS IN JIMBARAN

With its long stretch of golden sand and gentle, rolling waves, Jimbaran is a great place to give surfing a go – whatever your ability. During a private lesson, an instructor will guide you through the basics on the beach before heading into the water to practice. Expect a few wipeouts, a lot of laughs, and with a bit of luck, the satisfying moment of actually standing up on the board.
