Sumba Holidays

Sumba sits a few islands east of Bali and is a calmer contrast to the Indonesian hotspot. Located in the East Nusa Tenggara Province, the large island is flecked with emerald limestone cliffs and dusted with vast sandy beaches. See traditional houses with tall, thatched roofs (known locally as Uma Bokulu) on a visit to Bandokodi Village in Kodi or Praijing Cultural Village near Waikabubak. Keep an eye out for wild horses roaming freely on the island (they’re part of Sumba’s cultural identity) and participate in the annual Pasola Festival, which typically takes place in February and March and celebrates the harvest.
