Due to open its doors in May 2018 Capella Ubud is sure to be a popular choice for 2018. With a nod to the spirited European explorers that first settled in Bali in the 1800’s, the camp is a luxury tented camp combining a real immersion in the rainforest with Bill Bensley designed luxury accommodation.
Made up of 22 tents the camp is small and exclusive, allowing it to nestle into the rainforest and surrounding paddy fields without compromising a single tree. All of the tents feature private plunge pools and decks, which make the perfect spot to take in the greenery of the rainforest and listen for the sounds of the nearby Wos River. Inside the tents feature four poster beds, dark wood furniture and opulent, ornate décor typical of Indonesia. The en suite, open air bathrooms even include roll top brass baths.
The two restaurants at Capella Ubud are Mads Lange and Api Jiwa, where guests will find a team of chefs ready to prepare a flavourful Indonesian feast. Special dining experiences in the rainforest or paddy fields can also be arranged.
Activities at the camp revolve around enjoying the tranquillity of the lush setting. Curl up in The Capella Library with a good book, go for a dip in the Cistern pool, take a stroll down to Wos River - which the camp has direct access to - or treat yourself to a rejuvenating massage in Auriga Spa. Venturing out of the camp there are a wealth of sights and activities to keep guests entertained. Visit the nearby Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary or the Puri Lukisan Museum, and then wander through the centre of Ubud, bartering for local handicrafts and artwork in the markets, and stopping to taste some delicious Indonesian street food.
Why we love it
Looking out onto the treetops of the rainforest from the comfort of your luxury tent is really quite magical.
