Sitting atop a hill overlooking the lush Ayung River Valley in the heart of Bali, the Alila Ubud is a modern and luxurious property just 20 minutes from central Ubud.
Accommodation ranges from Superior and Deluxe guestrooms, to spacious Villas, some with private pools, others balanced on stilts above the river valley. Superior and Deluxe rooms are located in a two storey building, with Superior rooms on the upper floor including a private balcony with daybed, and spacious Deluxe guestrooms on the ground floor, and including a private garden terrace and open air bathrooms.
For those that love to lounge poolside, Alila Ubud Pool Villas include a private pool and sundeck, and outdoor bathtub. To max out on the views, opt for a Valley Villa, or a Treetop Villa; the former a thatched wooden dwelling with wraparound balcony, the latter the most spacious and luxurious of all Villas at the Alila.
The Plantation Restaurant is a grand, open air and high ceilinged dining hall, where guests can feast on delicious Balinese cuisine or modern French dishes. Ingredients are locally sourced, and meals can be accompanied with wines from the Alila's fine selection. It's also a great spot for a relaxed drink overlooking the emerald infinity pool, and enjoying a seasonal cocktail, infused vodka or local Arak. The relaxed Cabana Lounge is the perfect spot to enjoy a pre or post dinner tipple, or sample the sharing plates and hawker style dishes from the Cabana Lounge menu.
The Alila group are renowned for their fantastic spa, and the Alila Ubud is no different. Guests can enjoy a range of treatments which take influence from ancient Asian healing techniques, and use fresh, natural and quality ingredients in the Alila spa product range. Guests can also stock up on Alila spa products before departing - the Balinese Blossom body butter is a favourite of ours.
Located a 20 minute drive from the heart of Ubud town, guests can make use of the complimentary shuttle to explore the central market, Ubud Palace and visit the independent boutiques that line the main streets. Other activities available locally include cycling, village visits, temple tours, and white water rafting.
Why we love it
Foodies should definitely enjoy the Alila Ubud cookery class. An early start sees guests visit the market at Payangan with the Alila Chef to learn about local ingredients, and buy the product for the cookery class. The class itself takes place in an outside kitchen, in the Alila Sculpture Garden, making for a delicious, scenic and memorable lunch!
