Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Today marks the start of your family adventure to Naples, the crown jewel of Italy’s coast. After herding the whole family to the airport (an achievement in itself), reward yourself and the little ones with some nibbles in the lounge before boarding your three-hour flight to Naples.

Once you touch down, you’ll be greeted by a private driver and escorted to your hotel. There, you can unpack, unwind and enjoy the afternoon sun before heading to a family-friendly restaurant for dinner – our clued-up Concierge is on hand to offer some tasty recommendations.

Put on your history hats, because today, you’re off on a full-day guided tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum, ancient cities that were buried by Mount Vesuvius’ untimely eruption in 79 AD. Ready to travel back in time?

In Pompeii, immerse yourself in the city’s history as you stroll along paved roads, marvelling at frescoed houses and bustling shops. Follow your guide through the Forum, the hub of ancient life, and explore bakeries where locals grabbed bites to eat – you'll be astonished by how little, in some ways, life has changed since then.

A thick layer of lava preserved most of Herculaneum, leaving buildings, interiors and structures remarkably intact. Unlike Pompeii, Herculaneum was not completely destroyed by the volcanic eruption, with many two-storey buildings escaping relatively unscathed.

Back in present-day Naples, discuss all things Vesuvius over dinner – its ancient ruins aren’t something you forget in a hurry.

Wake up the little ones bright and early this morning, because you’re starting the day at a local street market. Alongside your private guide, peruse crates of fresh food and eclectic knick-knacks, engage in lively bartering and select the finest ingredients for lunch. Back in the kitchen, don an apron, roll up your sleeves and learn the art of Neapolitan cooking as you and the youngsters prepare (then devour) a delicious four-course meal from scratch.

This afternoon, delve further into the past at two of northern Naples’ most famous Catacombs. Until the second century, the Catacombs of San Gennaro were the city’s primary burial grounds, housing significant basilicas carved into the tuff (volcanic rock) to honour the patron saint. The Catacombs of San Gaudioso are the second largest in Naples, and were also utilised by Christians as a burial site in the fourth century.

Echoing the fates of Pompeii and Herculaneum (but without the bustling crowds), the ancient villa of Oplontis was once the domain of Roman aristocrats. Accompanied by a knowledgeable private guide, you'll explore its beautiful lava-preserved ruins firsthand.

From there, head to Villa Poppea. Named after Nero's second wife, this complex boasts 94 rooms, thermal baths and a 197ft-long swimming pool, all enveloped by an elegant garden. Admire the remaining exquisite sculptures and paintings while immersing yourself in the villa’s ancient beauty.

For your last night in Naples, we recommend unwinding at a charming beachside restaurant. Treat the children to sweet gelato while you enjoy an ice-cold Aperol Spritz, and raise a toast to this wonderfully historic city.

It’s sadly time to say ciao to Italy. After a final fill-your-boots breakfast, you’ll be whisked off to the airport by a local driver. After a speedy three-hour flight (made even speedier by our children’s entertainment packs – you're welcome), touch down in the UK ready to research your next Italian family adventure.
