The super-stylish Copperhill Mountain Lodge is the best hotel in Sweden’s most popular ski resort, Åre.
As the name suggests, the lodge is inspired by the region's past as a major centre for copper ore mining, and the lobby features an enormous and striking copper wall. It's all so slick it feels like it could be a North American resort.
The 112 rooms range from standard doubles to multiple bedroomed suites, each and every one with superb views , kitchenettes by SMEG and bathrooms with delicious underfloor heating.
The gourmet restaurant Niesti serves high quality Swedish recipes, while the Fireside Lounge and Bar is cosy and atmospheric and has a menu of lighter dishes, as well as books for guests to read and extremely comfy chairs. Away from the hotel proper, and at the top of the nearby ski lift, is the Coppermine Co. Skier's Inn, a quintessentially rustic mountain restaurant serving pizzas from a wood-burning oven and vin chaud to a backdrop of live music.
After a tiring day on the slopes (and one vin chaud too many), head to the Sami-themed Copperhill Spa, for a treatment using essential oils, a rejuvenating outdoor steam bath and amazing views out over the slopes.
Why we love it
The hotel is ski-in/ski-out and, even better, has its own lift, the Copperhill Express, that takes guests straight to the best slopes.
