Located in the stunning Abisko National Park, Abisko Mountain Lodge is an archetypal mountain retreat in Northern Lapland.
The hotel itself is comprised of rooms in the main building, and self-catered cottages next door which sleep up to 6 people, and have full use of the hotel's facilities. The rooms are more modern in style, whilst the cottages are decked out in pine, red and white - in typical Swedish log-cabin style.
The restaurant at Abisko serves delicious (if slightly interesting) food, taking its inspiration primarily from the mountain surroundings. Expect moose and grouse, alongside seafood from the Lofoten Islands such as fresh cod, dried and salted cod and king crab. There is also a small shop within walking distance, for those in the self-catered cabins.
The mountains at Lapporten provide a superb base for activities, whether in summer or winter, and they are all on Abisko's doorstep. Peak-treks, heli-touring, heli-skiing, ice climbing, snowshoe treks, dog sledding and ice-fishing are all on offer in the winter, and the expert guides are always on hand to share their knowledge and expertise. Come summer, the activities are still just as fantastic, with fishing, heli-hiking and fishing being popular favourites. Why not go mountaineering with one of the excellent guides, who can also point out the spectacular flora and fauna that springs to life.
After a long day of playing in the ice there is a very welcome hot tub, massages are available upon request and activities such as yoga can also be arranged.
Take advantage of the vast open air playground - the mountains are the best place to try the multitude of activities on offer.
