For food fanatics or wannabe wine connoisseurs, there are plenty of city breaks in Europe that we can recommend to tick all your boxes. Try Basque tapas, known as pintxos, in San Sebastian, the culinary capital of Spain; sample some of the best port in the world in bustling Porto in northern Portugal; enjoy freshly-caught Swedish seafood in Gothenburg; or indulge in fine French cheese washed down with some of the best wine Europe has to offer in Bordeaux.
If it's art and architecture that tickles your fancy, there are some serious gems to be found across Europe. Whether it be Florence - the birthplace of the Renaissance; Barcelona to discover the colourful work of Gaudi; or ancient Valletta in Malta, which has been described by UNESCO as 'one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world' and was even crowned the European Capital of Culture for 2018.
