Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
France – Paris
100% customisable for you
The countdown is over, the bags are packed and the passports have been triple-checked; today you and the family are off to France.
Make your way to London St Pancras, browse the station’s shops for some snacks and reading material and then board your two-and-a-half-hour Eurostar to Paris. When the window seat negotiations have been settled, you’ll whizz beneath the English Channel – it’s probably worth breaking the news to the children that there won’t be any fish swimming past the train...
When you roll into Gare du Nord, you’ll be met at the station and whisked away by car to your charming hotel in the heart of Paris – your home for the next three nights.
The rest of the afternoon is all yours, so perhaps amble around your arrondissement, encouraging your youngsters to confidently fire off a few bonjours and mercis. Hearts are sure to melt.
Tonight, bypass any dinner deliberations with a restaurant recommendation from our Concierge – just tell them what the youngsters (and you) are craving.
Any avid art aficionados in the family? Today’s their time to shine. Make your way to the iconic Louvre Museum, where today’s visit comes with a treasure-hunting twist.
Armed with a booklet of clues and riddles, your little ones will track down world-famous masterpieces like the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo, alongside artefacts from Ancient Egypt and the Italian Renaissance. Before long, they’ll be inspecting every brushstroke, carving and curious detail like seasoned sleuths. Better yet, there are prizes up for grabs at the end, so let the friendly family rivalry commence.
By the end, you’ll see who’s destined for detective work, and who’s still insisting the riddles were far too cryptic...
A day spent piecing together clues and oohing and aahing around the galleries is bound to work up a mighty appetite. So tonight, dine somewhere local and sink your teeth into French favourites like duck confit and onion soup before cracking (quite literally) into a gloriously caramelised creme brulee.
Fuel up with a quintessentially Parisian breakfast this morning; we’re talking buttery croissants, a velvety cafe au lait and a babyccino for the little ones.
Then, lace up your walking shoes and meet your local guide for a stroll through Paris’s lavish Left Bank. First up is Saint-Germain-des-Pres, where grand cafés were once the favourite haunts of Paris’ literary and artistic greats. Among the most iconic are Café Flore and Les Deux Magotse, whose elegant, flower-embellished terraces are prime people-watching spots. Another pastry, anyone?
Next, wind through cobbled streets adorned with elegant facades all the way to the Latin Quarter. Here, you’ll pass the centuries-old Sorbonne and prestigious Sainte Genevieve Library before taking a well-earned breather in the Luxembourg Gardens.
Saving the oldest until last, cross the Seine to discover the Arenes de Lutece; an ancient Roman amphitheatre that’s bound to spark plenty of wide-eyed wonder.
When hunger strikes this evening, make a beeline for a bistro and treat everyone to some classic steak frites.
Rise and shine, it’s time to make the most of your final morning by ticking off a few more of Paris’ bucket-list sights.
Start with the Eiffel Tower, where necks are guaranteed to crane skywards as you take in Gustave Eiffel’s world-famous masterpiece in all its towering glory. Then perhaps follow the Champs-Elysees towards the Arc de Triomphe, snapping plenty of family photos along the way – this is prime holiday album material.
Of course, you’ll also pass plenty of gleaming patisserie windows, where the allure of Parisian macarons have the habit of derailing even the most ambitious sightseeing plans...
Then, with everyone’s sweet tooth well and truly satisfied, it’s sadly time to say au revoir to Paris, and make your way back to Gare du Nord or your Eurostar back to London. It’s a two-and-a-half-hour journey; plenty of time to flick through your photos, relive the highlights and start the all-important conversation with your youngsters – where to next?
