Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
A Big Short Break in Copenhagen Bike Tours, Hygge and Hearty Bites
Denmark – Copenhagen
Start on two wheels, cycling through the Superkilen urban park, past the grand Rosenborg Castle and The Little Mermaid sculpture, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s famous fairytale.
The rest of your Big Short Break is all about the age-old combo of food and culture. When you’re not tucking into tasty local treats at Torvehallen and Norrebro’s food markets, you can indulge in some good-old-fashioned fun at Tivoli Gardens, which Walt Disney used as inspiration for Disneyland. 100% customisable for you
Set your alarms early for your trip to Copenhagen this morning. Flights to the Danish capital take one hour and 45 minutes, so you’ll be up and down before you know it.
After landing, meet your private driver to transfer to the city centre in time to check in and grab lunch. Make sure it’s a filling one, because this afternoon, you’ll hop on bikes to start exploring. Copenhagen is a cyclists’ haven, after all.
Accompanied by a private local guide, head to the Superkilen urban park, in the Norrebro district. Designed to promote integration across ethnicity, religion and culture, it’s home to a children’s play area, modern art installations and a market. You’ll also swing by The Little Mermaid statue and Rosenborg Castle.
Come evening, enjoy a modern, boldly flavoured and visually impressive meal at a renowned Nordic restaurant. Expect the likes of beef tenderloin and fried Norwegian lobster. Yum.
Once you’ve pried yourselves away from your plush bed sheets and tucked into a tasty breakfast this morning, it’s time to explore more of the city. The name of the game today: a private gourmet tour of Torvehallen and Norrebro.
These food markets are known for their smoked and marinated fish, as well as their cheeses, artisan meats, nectar fruit and ciders. In the objectively cool Norrebro, you’ll sample dishes from some of Jæggersborggade Street’s hottest restaurants and microbreweries while learning about the New Nordic Kitchen concept.
The rest of the day is yours to spend as you please. We recommend heading to Glyptoteket, an art and sculpture museum in central Copenhagen, for a walk around its glorious winter garden. Or you could stop by the iconic Tivoli Gardens for some good-old-fashioned fairground fun.
Start your day indulging in a bit of hygge (pronounced hoo-gah), the Danish concept of cosiness. Enjoy a slow morning on trendy Jægersborggade Street, stopping at quaint coffee shops and bakeries for frosnappers and wienerbrods (the inspiration behind the globally recognised ‘Danish’).
Filled up on flaky pastries, visit Freetown Christiania (also known as just ‘Christiania’) with a local guide for a private tour of this autonomous commune. This self-governing, hippy enclave staked its claim as a neighbourhood of whimsical DIY homes, cosy eateries, beer gardens and music venues in the early 70s. To experience an alternative slice of Copenhagen – and pick up some quirky souvenirs along the way – Christiania is the place to be.
The rest of the day is yours to spend as you wish. Then, this evening, bag a table at one of the swankiest spots in town for your final meal in the city – our local Concierge will be on hand to handle the reservation.
Sadly, the time has come to say farvel (goodbye) to Copenhagen. After one last breakfast of omelettes and pancakes this morning, check out and load up the car for your private transfer to the airport.
Your flight home takes just under two hours, meaning it’ll only be a hop, skip and a jump until you’re back in Blighty. May the plans for your next adventure commence...
