Our Favourite All-Rounder Destinations

With the extra admin involved with travel these days (what we like to call ‘travmin’), it’s no wonder that there’s a growing trend to opt to explore one destination in depth, rather than packing multiple countries into one holiday. This allows for a deeper and richer experience, in keeping with our Travel Less, Travel Better ethos, meaning you’ll come back feeling well-travelled, even with just a single stamp in your passport. Luckily, some of our favourite destinations offer plenty of variety and changing scenery within their borders, so we’ve picked out some of our top all-rounder destinations, where you can enjoy a city break, a beach holiday and plenty of activities all in one trip.

Circuit of Argentina’s Highlights

With its diverse landscapes that range from fertile plains to colourful cities, Argentina is a fantastic all-rounder destination. Kick off your Argentine adventure with a couple of days spent exploring vibrant Buenos Aires, where you can discover the delights of Argentinian culture in the neighbourhoods of Palermo, La Boca and San Telmo, as well as enjoying a traditional tango show. Then head south to Patagonia to get up close to the vast Perito Moreno Glacier and spot wildlife including guanacos, armadillos, flamingos and pumas that live in Los Glaciares National Park. A little further north, set off on a scenic drive along the shoreline of Lake Nahuel Huapi and enjoy panoramic views of Andean peaks, mountain lakes and of course the city of Bariloche. Next is the heartland of gaucho country - the fertile lowlands of the Pampas, where you can get acquainted with Argentina's famous cowboys and where you’ll be taught to ride or even try your hand at polo. What more could you want from a two-week holiday?

From dolphin-spotting off the coast of Muscat, to sleeping out under the stars on an Arabian desert safari and staying in a magical Bedouin camp in the Wahiba Sands, Oman is a feast for the senses. Soak up the culture in the heart of the Omani capital of Muscat, including the architectural beauty of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and the bustling Muttrah Souq, where you can haggle for souvenirs. Get your adrenaline rush on a 4x4 desert safari in the Wahiba Sands and marvel at the awe-inspiring panoramic views on a walk through the Hajar Mountains. For a dose of relaxation, add on extra time in Muscat and head to the Daymaniyat Islands where you can enjoy catamaran cruises, fantastic diving and snorkelling, and delicious fresh fish.

Cultural Immersion in Japan

You could spend a year in Japan and still barely scratch the surface of this fascinating destination. Take in some of Japan’s top spots on a two-week adventure, starting with the sensory overload that is Tokyo before a total contrast in scenery in Nikko National Park, a wilderness of undulating hills carpeted in thick, green forests. Next, board the bullet train to the Japanese Alps and stay in a traditional Japanese ryokan inn with tatami flooring, sliding doors and futon-style beds. In Osaka, experience the city through your tastebuds on a tantalising tasting tour of the city's best eateries. Accompanied by a local guide, delve deep into the tangle of hidden alleyways to discover all the local delicacies from fresh okonomiyaki (Japanese savoury pancake) to tasty Takoyaki (savoury ball-shaped cakes) which have featured in the Japan Michelin Guide.

Southern Spain Road Trip

There’s a lot to love about Spain with its sunny cities and cool coastlines. The challenge is fitting everything in. And the solution? Spend ten days exploring southern Spain on a road trip taking in Granada, Cordoba, Seville and a little bit of the glorious Andalusian countryside. Start off by broadening your knowledge with an expert historian guide for a private tour of the treasures of the Alhambra, a 1,500-year old masterpiece of Moorish and Christian architecture. Next, it’s onwards to Cordoba, where you can wander around the old Jewish and Moorish quarters to marvel at the beautiful courtyards. Hunt out the best tapas (and sangria) in Seville on a tapas tour with an expert foodie guide and pick up your new favourite dance moves at one of the many fabulous flamenco bars. Finish the trip with some downtime in the glorious Andalusian countryside. The landscapes here are best seen from the saddle and we can arrange for private riding lessons for all levels.
