Los Potreros is a 6,000-acre working estancia located in the Sierras Chicas in the heart of the beautiful Cordoba region of central Argentina.
The estancia has been in the same Anglo-Argentine family for four generations, and all visitors are hosted by members of the family. Accommodation on the farm is simple but very comfortable. All rooms are tastefully furnished and have private bathrooms.
Los Potreros sits at an altitude between 4000 and 4500 feet and generally enjoys a sunny, dry climate but there are warming log fires in the cooler winter evenings. Meals feature European and local dishes, supplemented by the estancia's own organically grown vegetables, fruit and free-range eggs, and accompanied by wines from local vineyards.
As a working cattle ranch and horse breeding farm, there is always plenty going on at Los Potreros. Guests are welcome to watch the gauchos at work, try their hand at lassoing and generally gain a first-hand experience of estancia life and the rural traditions of Argentina. Other activities include watching and playing polo (informal polo is played once a week and is open for all guests to participate; but if you’re staying fewer days and wish to guarantee a polo session, this can be arranged for an additional cost).
The estancia has a riding stable of over 80, with horses to suit all standards of rider. Trekking to viewpoints and swimming in natural rock pools are other possibilities, as are rides in antique cars or traditional horse-drawn carriages.
There is also good birdwatching, with species ranging from vultures and eagles down to brightly coloured humming birds. Those who prefer just to unwind can relax by the pool or in one of the hammocks on the veranda.
Why We Love It
Non-polo players need not panic. For those who prefer their horse-riding without stick and ball, there are wide expanses of beautiful scenery to explore.
Estancia El Colibri is a country style colonial house located in the heart of Argentina, in Santa Catalina Province of Cordoba, surrounded by open countryside, valleys, woodlands, farmland and polo fields.
The estancia is a charming property within easy reach of Cordoba airport, set in acres of private land over looking Cordoba Mountains and caters for those wanting luxury, excellent food, space, gaucho lifestyle, polo, tango and other outdoor pursuits. There are 9 large suites and bedrooms all with private bathrooms. Each room is decorated to the finest detail, equipped with satellite television, DVD, internet connection and mini-bar. The owners, Raoul and Stephanie Fenestraz, have successfully created a truly wonderful place in every detail from the décor, food, wine, level of service, comfort and activities on offer. Riding, polo lessons, mountain biking, walking, adventure tracks, trekking, bird watching and participation in farm work are activities available on the property. Guests can also go dove and pigeon shooting, fishing, go-cart racing, play golf, go shopping and go on cultural day trips to see the Jesuit churches. There is also a large swimming pool in the garden, a spa and indoor and outdoor dining areas for meals.
Why We Love It
No expense has been spared by the owners, yet the house is tastefully charming and homely and firmly the right side of OTT.
