The Treehotel is a rare and ingenious concept consisting of, well, tree houses, and allows guests to experience the stunning surroundings from an opportune spot in Luleå.

There are currently seven tree houses including; the UFO, the Bird's Nest, the Mirror Cube, the Blue Cone - which is in fact red -, the Cabin, the Dragonfly and the new The 7th Room. These quirky rooms are contemporary yet eco-friendly and each individually designed with a particular theme in mind (as is reflected by their names). They all have loos, heating and electricity, and showers are just a short walk away in the central hub - Britta's Pensionat - which we think adds to the tree house experience.

The 7th Room, UFO, Bird's Nest and Dragonfly are the best for families as they each sleep up to 5 people, and the Cabin and Mirror Cube are the best for couples, as they offer the most privacy and have stunning views. For those who like to keep their feet on terra firma, the Blue Cone is only very slightly raised and is easily accessible by a bridge, and still retains the tree house feel of the others.

Britta's Pensionat is where it all happens, and owners Kent and Britta Lindvall ensure that everyone is well watered and fed. The food is delicious and homely, served buffet-style, and everyone sits together comparing notes on the day's adventures.

A multitude of activities are on offer from the Treehotel. In winter there is dog-sledding and snow-showing, and when the ice melts fishing and sailing are on the cards.

After a long day of adventurous pursuits, the Tree Sauna is an extremely welcome addition to the hotel. Set in amongst the trees, it blends in with nature and is the ultimate cure for any weary muscles.

Why we love it

Because the whole concept is cool and quirky and a little bit bonkers, and right up our street.
