Where to visit in Portugal?

Where to visit in Portugal?

Portugal is a country brimming with luxury holiday treats, from lusciously luxurious hotels, enough wine to sink the Titanic and, well, lots and lots of sardines if you must know. If you want to know which regions to head to for an exclusive escape, here's some pointers to get you started...

Porto

Porto is the perfect place to kick off your Portuguese adventure which, as a city break, could well be Europe's next hidden gem. The Yeatman Hotel is pure luxury (yet affordable), and the views over the city from the hotel are stunning. The importance of Port wine and it's production is prominent and a visit to a cave is a must.

The Douro Valley

The drive from Porto to the Douro Valley is pleasant and picturesque. Again, most of the economic activity (and activity in general!) is centered around wine. The region is peaceful and perfect for relaxation, as well as lovely walks, horse riding and boat trips along the river.

Lisbon

Lisbon is a vibrant, young city, and the gorgeous coastline is only a 20 minute drive away. The Bairro Alto district is great for nightlife and Chiado is where it's at for shopping. The traditional yellow tram number 28 has become a popular ride, which stops directly outside Bairro Alto Hotel - a fun way of seeing a little of the city. Memmo Alfama hotel is also conveniently located, as you can get lost in Alfamas medieval alleyways and enjoy the outstanding viewpoints.

Alentejo

The Alentejo is on the up! In fact, it might just be our favourite region of Portugal. The landscape is beautiful; undulating plains and gentle hills. L'and Vineyards is the place to stay: the setting is perfect and the views are stunning. No matter what time of year you're there, you'll find something to do; curl up by your own private fire in the winter or swim in the beautiful pool in the summer. Autumn is a particularly happening time when you can participate in the midnight harvest of the grapes, and produce your own bottle of wine from start to finish!

The Algarve

No blog about Portugal would be complete without some mention of the Algarve, the most well known region of Portugal by tourists. The area has a high standard of beaches, hotels and restaurants, all perfect for families and couples looking for a sunshine break.
