The Best Easter Holiday Destinations

Reading time

While there's nothing wrong with staying at home and stuffing your face with chocolate, Easter is a great time of year for a holiday. Make the most of the school break with a further-afield family getaway, or stay closer to home and soak up the sun with a beachy break in Europe or a festive visit to one of the continent's beautiful cities. If you're wondering where to go for Easter, read on for our full roundup of the best Easter holiday destinations for 2023 and beyond...

  1. Paris, France
  2. Seville, Spain
  3. Oman
  4. Algarve, Portugal
  5. Cyprus

Chocolateries in Paris

For anyone with a sweet tooth, Paris is without a doubt one of the best Easter destinations. Indulge in mouth-wateringly good chocolate creations as you visit some of the city's top chocolateries and seek out the finest Easter eggs to sink your teeth into. Many of the city's famous sites - including the Sacre-Coeur - have great celebrations at this time of year and there are countless award-winning restaurants to dine in once you're ready for something savoury.

Festivities in Seville

If you're in the mood for festivities, head to the Spanish city of Seville to experience one of the country's biggest celebrations - Santa Semana (Easter Holy Week). Taking place in the week leading up to Easter, the celebration sees people take to the streets for huge processions complete with large statues and colourful floats and it is a fascinating spectacle to witness if you don't mind the crowds.

Linger Longer in Oman

For adventurous families who want to travel further afield, Oman is a great Easter holiday destination. Spend your days visiting medieval forts; bumping across the wilderness on 4x4 safaris; and dolphin and whale watching on the coast. Come evening, we can arrange for you to stay in a traditional desert camp for an unforgettable night under the stars.

A Beachy Break on the Algarve

With temperatures in the 20s and a fraction of the crowds that flock here in the summer, Portugal's Algarve region definitely deserves a spot in a roundup of the best Easter holiday destinations. There are long sandy beaches and whitewashed fishing villages to explore along the coast and excellent hiking and cycling trails further inland. And if you've always wanted to learn to surf, this is a great place to do it.

A Sunny Stay in Cyprus

Cyprus is another beachy destination that is well worth a visit at Easter, and with over 300 days of sunshine a year, you're almost guaranteed good weather (making it one of the best Easter sun destinations). The island nation is a great destination for families, with peaceful beaches and excellent hotels at every turn, and also anyone with a love of history and culture with its well-preserved classical ruins, remote monasteries, Byzantine churches and crusader fortresses.

Cambodia off the Beaten Track

Cambodia off the Beaten Track

Southeast Asia is a favourite for first-time travellers – safe, welcoming and easy to explore. Yet all too often, Cambodia is the casualty of the Indochina loop, with many simply dropping in to see the (admittedly awe-inspiring) Angkor before moving swiftly on. On my first visit, I was guilty as charged. But my return visit changed everything. Cambodia, I realised, has come of age. It’s no longer the ‘add-on’ destination, but a country that demands time, rewards curiosity and offers depth, warmth and discovery at every turn.

The world’s first tourist destination; Egypt has attracted the great and the good for more than four millennia. Tom Holland charts the ebb and flow of the country’s time travel.   Egypt is where tourism began. Perhaps this is hardly surprising. By the 5th century BC, when the first tourist guide to Egypt was written, pharaonic civilisation was already more than two and a half millennia old.

Benefits of Shoulder Season: Travel Data, Savings & Low-Stress Destinations

For those of us who don’t have to adhere to the constraints of the school holidays, we have a wide choice when it comes to choosing what season to travel in. Though the summer remains a top choice, thanks to the good weather across much of the Northern Hemisphere and the general societal norm of treating ourselves to a break at this time, the so-called ‘shoulder season’ is becoming ever-more popular.
