  1. Visit Hill Stations
  2. See the Gokak Falls
  3. Marvel at Gol Gumbaz
  4. Explore National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries

Visit Hill Stations

Hill stations – the colonial-era name for high-elevation towns that were popular refuges from the summer heat among the British — are the perfect base for a peaceful getaway. Coorg, Chikmagalur and Kemmangundi are three hill stations known for their picturesque landscapes, cool climate and verdant greenery, and paying them a visit is one of the very best things to do in Karnataka. Spend your time exploring coffee plantations and orange groves, visiting historic temples and forts, hiking along beautiful trails, and enjoying adventure activities like white water rafting.

See The Gokak Falls

Gokak Falls is a picturesque horseshoe-shaped waterfall located in the Belagavi district of Karnataka. It lies on the Gokak River and is surrounded by lush greenery, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike. The waterfall is approximately 170ft high and is divided into two parts: the upper fall and the lower fall. The upper fall is the more popular of the two, with a wide and powerful flow of water, while the lower fall is a little more secluded, making it a great spot for a picnic lunch and a dip in the pool at the base. While you’re in the area, enjoy a walk along the banks of the Gokak River, visit the nearby Sri Gokakeshwar Temple — a popular pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Shiva — and see the hydroelectric power station located near the falls.

Marvel at Gol Gumbaz

Gol Gumbaz, located in the city of Bijapur in Karnataka, is a magnificent mausoleum which showcases the rich cultural and architectural heritage of the state. It is considered one of the most famous architectural masterpieces of the Deccan region and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, making it a must-see when it comes to things to do in Karnataka. The mausoleum houses the remains of Mohammed Adil Shah, the seventh sultan of the Adil Shahi dynasty, and is famous for its unique architectural style, featuring a large dome (one of the largest in the world) which is said to have such good acoustics that a person standing at the centre of the dome can hear a pin drop at the furthest corner. You can also climb to the top of the dome, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the city and surrounding countryside which are particularly special at sunset.

Explore National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries

Karnataka is home to a number of national parks and wildlife sanctuaries which allow visitors to experience the state's rich biodiversity and natural beauty. One of the most popular parks in Karnataka is the Bandipur National Park. Here, visitors can join a safari through the park to observe the animals in their natural habitat, and enjoy a guided nature walk to see the flora and fauna up close. Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is another popular site, located in the Western Ghats and known for its wide range of wildlife, including elephants, tigers, leopards and various bird species.
