Those lovely folks at the United Nations have again presented us all with the World Happiness Index, letting us know where we should live to constantly be feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. The good news for us at Original Travel, is that the top five are all spots that we know inside out, and have loved dearly, even before they topped the glee polls. So here's the run down...
In fifth place - CANADA
Land of bears, Mounties, Niagara Falls (well half of), and the exclusive McLobster, the Canadians have a lot to shout about. Head to Churchill - the 'Polar Bear Capital of the World' - or get lost in the Canadian Rockies, a UNESCO world heritage site.
In fourth place - NORWAY
More polar bears, the northern lights, and the stunning Fjords are just some of the many faces of Norway. Fuse the great outdoors with some Scandi-cool design at the Juvet Landscape hotel, or get your adrenaline fill snorkelling with Orca's.
In third place - DENMARK
Aside the fact our very own Nick hails from here, the fact that Denmark is also home to the achingly hip restaurant Noma - voted the world's best numerous times - probably have something to do with why those well-dressed and well-fed Copenhagen dwellers are so darn happy.
In second place - ICELAND
Geologically the youngest country on earth, but definitely one of the coolest, Iceland offers adventure by the bucket loads. In winter, explore the wilderness on a Superjeep and Snowmobile tour, or spend summer days hiking, horse-riding, sea-kayaking or whale-watching, in near constant daylight.
And stealing the top spot - SWITZERLAND
With some of the most challenging Ski terrain in Europe, and some pretty delicious chocolate, we can see why the Swiss are feeling so chuffed with themselves. Throw in the adrenaline pumping Cresta Run, where participants hurtle themselves down ¾ miles of toboggan run at speeds of around 60 mph, and you've got a pretty exciting prospect for a Big Short Break.
