Suriyawatta is a charming family home perched above a coastal lagoon only 40 minutes from the historic town of Galle. With minimalist interiors, and a charming cottage-like exterior, you’ll be in no hurry to leave.
All five rooms are en-suite and accomodate a total of ten guests. Four bedrooms sit in the main house around a pen courtyard whilst the fifth is situated in a separate building amidst the gardens. Each has been decorated with a fairly neutral colour tone but odd pops of colour creep in here and there.
When it comes to dining, the in-house chef works to your beck and call serving both local and western cuisine that can be enjoyed on the veranda.
The sitting room boasts French windows with ocean views and opens out to the terrace and garden where, at the end, sits an inviting pool lined with sun beds and green palms. For the children the pool inflatables, garden games and swing will provide hours of entertainment not to mention the Sonos system wired to the garden - let the pool party commence!
The beach is accessible via the private gate in the garden and, if you're a pro surfer, between mid-December and April there's a left hand surf break on the beach. For those less talented in the water sports department, spend mornings catching crabs in front of the villa before heading into Galle for an afternoon excursions.
Ask the chef to whip up some fresh ice-cream in the ice-cream maker, what better cooling pool side snack is there?
