On the cultured south coast of Sri Lanka, the exclusive Kahanda Kanda retreat features private villas scattered across a working tea estate.
Ten individual suites nestled in the gardens of the 12 acre estate are private and spacious, with ensuite outdoor showers, a blend of Asian antique and contemporary Sri Lankan furnishings, and views of the lush jungle and Lake Koggala. For complete privacy, the deluxe Dobu Suite, Hellaconia Suite and Hibiscus Suites also boast private plunge pools.
The KK kitchen specialises in fresh fusion cuisine incorporating Thai influences and traditional Sri Lankan flavours, using local seasonal produce and fruits, vegetables and herbs grown onsite. Meals can be taken in the dining pavilion, although guests are encouraged to dine under the stars around the estate, whether by the pool or in the midst of the tea plantation.
The tranquil 20m infinity pool is one of the highlights of this resort, with comfortable loungers and parasols for guests to enjoy. Yoga, meditation and massage are also on offer, as are cookery classes with the three skilled chefs.
Kahanda is ideally located for exploring the south coast. The nearby UNESCO world heritage site of Galle is an old Dutch colonial fort town with ramparts to wander and shops to peruse. The local beaches, reached by tuk tuk, are perfect for body sufing, snorkelling and canoeing, while elsewhere visiting temples, whale watching, deep sea fishing, wildlife jeep tours and scuba diving are recommended.
Guests can experience traditional Sunday school at the Tittagalla temple, and discover KK's community initiatives with local Buddhist children.
