Fort Bazaar is set within a sensitively restored 17th century town house right in the heart of Galle Fort, once the home of spice, tea and gem traders, and offers plenty of charm and an ideal location.
Fort Bazaar is the sister hotel to one of our all-time Sri Lankan favourites, The Wallawwa, and so guests can expect the same thoughtful, attentive service and delicious, innovative cuisine at Fort Bazaar.
There are just 18 guestrooms, each contemporary in style with Moorish influences which reflect the history of Galle Fort; think colourful patterned tiles and fabrics and pendant lamps to complement an otherwise neutral colour palette. The Bazaar Bedrooms overlook the central courtyard, while Banyan Bedrooms offer a private terrace or veranda and interconnecting rooms are available for families. The spacious Upper Suites have wonderful views across terracotta tiled rooftops to the Indian Ocean beyond.
The Church Street Social Restaurant and Bar is at the forefront of Fort Bazaar, sitting on the main thoroughfare at the front of the hotel. It offers a menu of Middle Eastern cuisine, tapas, delicious sharing platters and of course traditional Asian dishes with plenty of fresh seafood (best accompanied by one of the signature cocktails). The Restaurant is just as popular with walk-in guests, creating a buzzy atmosphere each evening.
Cushioned seating in the courtyard and library offer guests plenty of relaxation space, while a private cinema is a unique addition to Fort Bazaar. The 50ft swimming pool and serene 'Z' spa are due to open later this year, and while the hotel does not currently have a liquor license, the team at Fort Bazaar are offering a BYO service, whereby they will store and serve guests drinks, bought from outside of the hotel.
Fort Bazaar is right in the heart of historic Galle Fort, in the ideal location for exploring the restaurants, bars and boutiques of Galle - as well as the iconic test cricket ground which is just 200 metres away.
