What is there to do on an Australia family holiday?
Head to Australia and you can happily leave the iPads firmly shut away for the duration (except perhaps for the flight - it’s a long old way to the other side of the world) and spend time exploring the great outdoors as a family. While children younger than ten may not be old enough to get the most out of Australia, this vast country is a true adventure playground for those who’ve reached double figures.
Yes, we know it's a long flight but Australia is absolutely worth the journey. And don't let the time differences and fear of jet lag stop you from exploring this part of the world as a family either: children are surprisingly adaptable with time zones and often adjust much quicker than us oldies.
Australia family holidays work any time of year, so head here in either the Christmas, Easter or even Summer holidays. And yes, while our summer is technically Australia's winter, the lower temperatures are much more suited to children, and, for those with an interest in large marine life, it's also the perfect time to spot whale sharks off the west coast's Ningaloo Reef.
If you've got animal lovers in tow, head to Tasmania to see Australian fur seal pups, or Kangaroo Island to see, you guessed it, kangaroos, along with sea lions, koalas and penguins. Beach lovers can't miss the famous Bondi Beach to try your hand at surfing alongside the seasoned pros; or the Great Barrier Reef for the chance to snorkel or dive in the biggest barrier reef in the world and try your luck at finding Nemo yourself.
Away from the beaches, explore the gorges of the Blue Mountains, or head right into the 'Red Centre' of Australia and discover the Outback on guided bush walks, where you can learn about aboriginal culture and art from our excellent guides who are specifically chosen for their skill at keeping children engaged. And as the majority of Australia's population live in its coastal cities, it would be a shame not to explore the likes of Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, where our city guides are used to dealing with children of varying ages so can make sure any tour or activity is age-appropriate.
