Australia and New Zealand are perfect destinations to visit with families - despite the long journey to get there - once you arrive it'll all be worth it. The long school holidays make it perfect for a slightly lengthier trip (which is needed given how far away it is!) and you can always include stopovers, for example in Singapore, to break up the flights and make it a more manageable journey. The huge range of activities on offer in New Zealand will keep children of all ages entertained, although some of the more adventurous activities are better suited to those aged 10 and above. Fans of Lord of the Rings can marvel at the beautiful scenery (whilst keeping a watchful eye out for Orks) and trekking, swimming with dolphins and jetboating are sure to keep the dreaded boredom at bay. In Australia the wildlife of Kangaroo Island and Tasmania will entice any mini Attenboroughs with aforementioned 'roos, koalas and colourful birdlife. This combines nicely with New South Wales, which is also perfect for family getaways. Enjoy a boat ride to see Sydney Opera House and the harbour bridge, head to Manly beach for a surfing lesson or even Byron Bay for the pros. For any family visitors in North Queensland, a visit to the Great Barrier Reef is not to be missed - a snorkelling trip is perfect for teens (and gets them off their phones for five minutes as they marvel at the beautiful corals).
