Rio - Where to stay?
Looking for style, ease and glamour without over the top grandeur, the 1920's Copacabana Palace was the hotel for me.
What a position!
The Copacabana Palace balconies look out over palm trees that line the beach promenade, and across the blue water of Guanabara bay, blue sky above and white sails on the sea, spanned by the sensational bridge to the city of Niteroi. One minute out of the hotel and you are on one of the world's most famous beaches, four kilometres of it, alive with beautiful people at play. Eat your heart out Berlusconi!
Anything to do?
Plenty. Rio rocks - really. Train it up Corcovado to the iconic Art Deco statue of Christ the Redeemer; para-glide from Sugar Loaf Mountain on to the beach; eat like a lord in vivacious restaurants; buy a bikini in ""The Girl from Ipaneama"" boutique; join the 80,000 football spectators at Maracana stadium; samba the night away - if you don't know how they'll teach you.
From Winter this year BA are making it even easier to get to Rio de Janeiro with flights departing a whopping six times a week so there's no excuse not to lace up your boots for a Brazilian adventure.
As the fifth largest country in the world, Brazil can be quick to overwhelm. But leave the planning in the hands of our expert team – two of whom are natives and one of whom grew up there – and dive into a stress-free, tailor-made itinerary. From closing off the Christ the Redeemer statue for a private, white tablecloth breakfast (yes, really) to beach picnics in Bahia, our experiences surpass the norm. With our portfolio of properties including luxury resorts in Rio and mid-century houses with views of Sugarloaf Mountain, there’s something to suit all travellers' tastes.
ENQUIRE NOWPractical advice and inspiration for your next trip
Ah, Rio, where music and passion are always the fashion. With a population of over 14 million and a culture more colourful than the outfits at Carnival, Rio de Janeiro is a true melting pot. And there’s white-sand beaches, lush rainforests and mouth-watering cuisine too. We’d love to spend a week or two (or three) in this sprawling city, but if your South American itinerary is already jam-packed, 24 hours in Rio de Janeiro is just enough time to see the highlights and sample a taste of the carioca (local) lifestyle.
