Tongabezi Lodge is situated on the banks of the Zambezi River, 12 miles upstream and a world away from the Victoria Falls.
The lodge sleeps 20 guests in luxurious canvas and thatched cottages. Five of these are set along the river bank, and five more dotted around the grounds, including the Bird House, perched on a hilltop, and the Tree House, built around living tree trunks on the cliff-face.
Activities revolve around the river and include canoeing, fishing, sunrise and sunset boating and trips to Victoria Falls. Game drives, guided walking, bird watching, picnic lunches on river islands and scenic flights over the Falls are also on offer, as well as more hair-raising activities such as white-water rafting, bungee-jumping and a gorge swing. A few miles downstream is Sindabezi Island, a private hideaway with five chalets offering a more rustic, down-to-earth experience.
Guests at Tongabezi also have access to Livingstone Island, perched in mid-stream at the very edge of the Falls, this offers a close-up experience of one of the natural wonders of the world, as the river plunges into the chasm below.
