Morocco meets Kenya at Sasaab, a beautiful lodge with views across Samburu to the Laikipia plateau and the Mathews Range.
There are just nine Moroccan-themed suites with Swahili touches situated above the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, each comprising a bedroom (or two, in the case of the Family Suite), a sitting room, plunge pool and open air bathrooms. For families, baby-sitting and special children's meals are available by prior arrangement.
Guests are on full-board throughout their stay, which includes meals and most drinks (excluding champagne and a few imported wines and spirits) and the main event is supper, usually served under the stars.
The main communal area sits on a high rocky ridge with spectacular views out from the elegant Moroccan interiors and courtyard. The swimming pool is perched on the hill side overlooking the river. Massage & beauty treatments are available in the privacy of your tent.
As Sasaab is the only lodge in the region, there are superb safari opportunities with expert guides to see the Samburu Reserve's famous herds of elephants and endangered Grevy Zebra safe in the knowledge there will be no other vehicles around. Other activities on offer include guided walking safaris, camel treks, cultural visits to local Samburu villages (highly recommended since Sasaab has very close ties with the local community) and fly camping under the stars.
