Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Your four-day Umbrian escape begins with a two-and-a half-hour flight to Perugia. On arrival, collect your hire car and enjoy a scenic drive through rolling hills to your countryside hotel. This elegant estate has everything you need to unwind – peaceful gardens, two pools, a spa and a restaurant showcasing Umbrian-Tuscan flavours.

Once you’ve settled in, stretch your legs with a stroll through the gardens or dive straight into one of the estate’s highlights: a wine tasting featuring local and Tuscan bottles, paired with chef-made bites and regional specialities. It’s the perfect introduction to Umbrian hospitality before a relaxed first evening, ideally with another glass of something delicious in hand.

This morning, join your private guide for a boat trip across Lake Trasimeno to Isola Maggiore. Explore the island’s lace-making traditions, frescoed churches and peaceful pathways while learning about its fascinating history.

The afternoon is yours to explore the lake at your own pace. We recommend stopping by Castiglione del Lago – a beautiful Medieval town perched above the shoreline with castle ramparts and café-lined piazzas.

Today is devoted to Orvieto – one of Umbria’s crown jewels, dramatically perched on volcanic rock. With a private guide leading the way, wander through its maze of Medieval lanes, admire the Duomo’s extraordinary façade and dip into the network of underground tunnels carved by the ancient Etruscans. There’s also time for a long lunch in a trattoria serving local favourites such as wild boar ragu and truffle-laden pasta.

Spend your final morning exploring Perugia at your own pace. Take a stroll along Corso Vannucci, pausing to admire the Fontana Maggiore and the grand Palazzo dei Priori, or duck into one of the city’s excellent museums for one last hit of culturt. If time allows, enjoy a coffee and a slice of torta al testo (Umbrian flatbread) in a sun-splashed piazza before driving back to the airport.

Return your hire car and board your flight home – restored, well-fed and perhaps a touch more knowledgeable about Umbrian wine than when you arrived.

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

PRIVATE TOUR OF PERUGIA

While it may fly under the radar compared to Florence or Siena, when it comes to culture, the Umbrian capital of Perugia more than holds its own. This private tour begins at the 15th-century San Lorenzo Cathedral before climbing to the intricately carved Fontana Maggiore, a beautiful 13th-century building. Continue along Corso Vannucci, the main street winding through old Perugia, to admire the grand 15th-century Palazzo dei Priori, the 18th-century Palazzo Donini and the much-loved Sandri patisserie. End by heading underground to the Medieval remains of the Rocca Paolina – a fortress built in the 1540s by Pope Paul III to make an impression (and it still does).
