Tucked away just minutes from Lake Iseo is the beautiful L’Albereta, a one-time summer residence for the nobility of Brescia and Bergamo which has been lovingly transformed into an enchanting boutique hotel, surrounded by landscaped gardens and vineyards.

Harriet, Kate L, Victoria and Lucy G are here to help give you the inside track.

The 38 guestrooms are all individually designed, decorated in warming neutral tones, with vintage furniture, rich fabrics and large windows allowing for plenty of natural light. Some rooms feature romantic four poster beds, others cosy fireplaces, and many have beautiful frescoes adorning the walls. Balconies and terraces overlook vineyards, forests of pine, fragrant magnolia and lime trees, and to Lake Iseo on a crisp, clear day. The luxurious Suites offer guests more space to relax, with our favourite suite boasting a retractable ceiling to allow for bedtime stargazing.

Guests can dine at Restaurant Leonfelice, where a menu of fine Italian cuisine is served, curated from produce sourced from the very hill where L'Albereta is located. Alternatively, the beautiful frescoes and Latin motti on the walls of VistaLago Bistro create a wonderful spot to dine, should guests not relax on the adjoining terrace which overlooks Lake Iseo and Montisola island. Ristorante Benessere offers the lightest menu for the calorie-conscious guests, while the Greeneige Lounge is the ideal spot for a nightcap.

For relaxation, head to the Spa Espace Chenot where a team of 30 therapists, beauticians and even dieticians are on hand to ensure guests leave feeling wholesome inside and out. The Spa area is also home to a vast swimming pool, sauna, Turkish bath and a spacious gym. For active guests, a tennis court and jogging trail are available, while sailing, windsurfing, horse riding and mountain biking can be enjoyed just a few miles from the resort.

Other facilities at L'Albereta include a charming boutique, and the option for guests to take part in guided tours of the wineries, and both wine tasting and cookery courses. For families, Maty's Kids Club will be sure to entertain the little ones while parent indulge in the finest vineyard produce. Maty's accepts children from three years and above sans parents, and occupies them with a range of games and activities.

Why we love it

Winding their way across 15,000 acres of parkland, from L'Albereta to the nearby 'Bellavista' and 'Contadi Castaldi' wineries, are thirteen contemporary sculptures, forming an outdoor art gallery.
