Sugar Reef is a boutique guesthouse in East Bequia, set in the heart of a 65-acre coconut plantation. The plantation looks onto a private, reef-protected bay giving uninterrupted coastal views of the Grenadines. It is also just ten minutes from the buzzing Port Elizabeth Harbour.
The property was built 30 years ago, using local stone, mahogany and other natural and traditional materials. Still retaining its original design, Sugar Reef has been updated with eco friendly concepts, including cathedral ceilings, verandas, French doors and windows to perfectly capture the ocean breezes.
All eight bedrooms are named after Grenadine islands and are divided between the Beach House and the French House. The Beach House is at the heart of Sugar Reef sitting right on the beach. The three beachfront rooms are situated next to the Beach House and share a private beach front garden complete with loungers and hammocks, perfect for gazing over the bay. The French House is located up a private drive, offering panoramic views of Crescent Bay as well as a private pool, old-fashioned Caribbean kitchen and plenty of games provided in the Great Room.
Sugar Reef's restaurant overlooking the bay, focuses on fresh local ingredients and exotic Caribbean flavours, serving farm-to-table meals. The hotel bar often whips up cocktails using the fresh fruit from the plantation. A continental breakfast is also served on the veranda of the French House.
Guests can soak up the sun and the relaxing atmosphere on Crescent Bay, or take a ramble up to Bequia head to absorb the history of the Island.
You can dive or drift snorkel in the protected coral reefs or even bike to a special spot for a pre-made picnic whilst exploring the tropical Caribbean forest.
