Luxury holidays in Africa aren't hard to come by - and the continent has many idyllic places to offer for those couples searching for an ultimate bespoke romantic holiday. These are Africa consultant Millie's favourite tailor made trips best suited to couples...
1. Idyllic Archipelago
For a classic fly-and-flop beach break, nothing can beat an idyllic island in Northern Mozambique for relaxation and romance. In addition to idyllic beaches, the archipelago contains mangrove forests and some of the richest coral reefs in the world, making for some of the world's best diving. But it's the sheer remote beauty of this wonderful place that makes it a must-visit destination - not to mention the recent flurry of top notch lodges which have just opened.
2. Canoe & Walking
A Canoe or Walking Safari in Mana Pools, Zimbabwe is the perfect way of getting away from it all in this romantic and remote National Park, made up of 2,500 kilometres of river frontage, islands, sandbanks and pools and flanked by forests of mahogany, wild figs, ebonies and baobabs. For real adventure, take to a canoe for three nights and travel along the mighty Zambezi river, camping on it's banks. Or if dry land is more for you, take part in a walking safari, allowing you to track the wildlife for a real close up experience.
3. Self-Drive
Namibia is an all-time favourite Original Travel destination, thanks to the sheer excellence of the accommodation and the extreme nature of the landscapes. It's exciting in its own right - but why not add extra adventure by taking your own 4x4 car? With great roads and easy sign posting, Namibia is made for self drive.
4. The ultimate city break
Voted the world's number one city, Cape Town is perfect for a spoiling week of wining, dining and partying (plus, did you know that with overnight flights and little time difference, you can pop over for a weekend, too?).
5. Travel in style
For real old school elegance and luxury, there's nothing more perfect than the beautiful Rovos Rail. Travel from Johannesburg in South Africa to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe on this glamorously restored train with modern twists throughout.

Practical advice and inspiration for your next trip
Southeast Asia is a favourite for first-time travellers – safe, welcoming and easy to explore. Yet all too often, Cambodia is the casualty of the Indochina loop, with many simply dropping in to see the (admittedly awe-inspiring) Angkor before moving swiftly on. On my first visit, I was guilty as charged. But my return visit changed everything. Cambodia, I realised, has come of age. It’s no longer the ‘add-on’ destination, but a country that demands time, rewards curiosity and offers depth, warmth and discovery at every turn.

This article originally featured in the first edition of our magazine, Original Traveller. The world’s first tourist destination; Egypt has attracted the great and the good for more than four millennia. Tom Holland charts the ebb and flow of the country’s time travel. Egypt is where tourism began. Perhaps this is hardly surprising. By the 5th century BC, when the first tourist guide to Egypt was written, pharaonic civilisation was already more than two and a half millennia old.

For those of us who don’t have to adhere to the constraints of the school holidays, we have a wide choice when it comes to choosing what season to travel in. Though the summer remains a top choice, thanks to the good weather across much of the Northern Hemisphere and the general societal norm of treating ourselves to a break at this time, the so-called ‘shoulder season’ is becoming ever-more popular.
