The Residence Zanzibar

The sister property to one of our favourite hotels in Mauritius, The Residence in Zanzibar opened in April 2011 and brings a new lease of life to the Tanzanian coastline and its main man Zanzibar.

On the south west coast of Zanzibar, The Residence is set along a mile long white sand beach, with gin clear waters and palm trees to boot. The 66 colonial style villas have either one or two bedrooms, making it the ideal choice for families, or for those simply looking for the privacy of a villa, with the benefits of a luxury hotel. Either beachfront or in the garden, all of the villas have private pools, access to butler services, and two bikes for exploring the surrounding area.

Located slap bang on the beach, the Indian Ocean is right on the doorstep. Although the sea is fairly tidal, there is a pontoon to swim off, and the daily free snorkelling trip is well worth leaving the villa for. For those who prefer to gaze out to sea rather than be in it, there is a glass walled swimming pool with stunning views out to the ocean. There is also a fitness centre, flood lit tennis court and fantastic spa nestled in the tropical gardens.

Children are certainly not forgotten at The Residence. While the grown ups soak up the views, indulge in the spa or take to the ocean for deep sea fishing, the kids will be entertained for hours on end with volleyball tournaments, games of hide and seek or even Swahili lessons. A range of both non-motorised and motorised water sports can also be arranged from the hotel, as well as excursions to Stone Town and other neighbouring places of interest.
