Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Your week of safaris under the African sun starts today with an overnight flight to Kilimanjaro. Head to the airport, whizz through security and enjoy some downtime in the lounge with a few nibbles and refreshments as you await departure. Try to get some shut eye on the flight and you’ll be touching down before you know it...

On arrival in Kilimanjaro, you’ll be met by your private driver-guide and whisked off to your hotel for the next two nights: a stylish lodge located near Arusha, the gateway for safaris galore and home to the iconic Mount Kilimanjaro.

Once you’ve settled in, take the rest of today to relax and enjoy the facilities at your lodge. Come evening, enjoy your first taste of local cuisine and a nightcap around the campfire before it’s time to hit the hay.

Wake up this morning to spectacular views across the African bush, before getting ready for today’s outdoor adventures. Begin with a guided walk in a local tropical rainforest, inhabited by an astonishing array of biodiversity. Marvel at the colobus and blue vervet monkeys, as well as a large variety of bird species.

After a spot of lunch, head to Tarangire National Park with your private guide. From the safety of your open-top 4x4 vehicle, discover the savannah dotted with acacias, baobabs and tamarind trees as you observe wildlife in their natural habitat. Home to tree-climbing lions, savannah elephants, plains zebras, Maasai giraffes, wildebeest, buffalo and many (many) more, this is truly a mecca for wildlife lovers. Learn more about the region’s curiosities from your knowledgeable guide, including the masked lovebirds that occupy the wet banks and the termite mounds surrounded by dwarf mongooses.

Back at your lodge, round off your first full day in Tanzania with a private starlit dinner around a crackling campfire.

Enjoy breakfast at your lodge with views of acacia and baobab trees before heading out for a second guided safari in Tarangire. After a few hours of action and adventure in the heart of the park, head to a beautiful restaurant in the bush to enjoy lunch with panoramic views.

This afternoon, you’ll be driven to the small village of Bashay, in Karatu, located around an hour and a half away. Your home for the night here is a charming little eco-lodge tucked in the hills and surrounded by coffee trees. After settling in and freshening up, a guide from the hotel will take you on a tour of the grounds and explain all the eco-friendly elements of the property and gardens.

Today, visit one of the most fascinating natural wonders on the continent: the Ngorongoro Crater. This UNESCO World Heritage site is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera with a radius of around six miles (and home to over 30,000 animals). The best part? You can drive right into the heart of the basin and get up close and personal with it all. On the lakes, flamingos often settle in their thousands, while in the sky, pelicans, Tantalus ibis and black kites swirl in their masses. On land, buffalo and hippos occupy the muddy banks while ostriches and gazelles watch on from the grasslands. As lions nap in the shade, zebras graze gracefully, coexisting peacefully with the blue wildebeest. The Ngorongoro Crater is truly a spectacle to behold.

Later this afternoon, your private driver-guide will take you to your next destination in the Serengeti plains, located around an hour and a half away. Spend the night in a simple yet comfortable camp located at the foot of magnificent kopjes, which are granite formations typical of the region.

Another day, another UNESCO World Heritage site. On this morning’s agenda is a private guided walk through the Olduvai Gorge, an exceptional paleoanthropological site nicknamed the ‘Cradle of Humanity’ owing to its significance in our understanding of human evolution. Once the home of early Hominins including Homo erectus, today, giraffes, dik-diks and cheetahs call this slice of the eastern Serengeti home.

After the walk, your driver will take you further into the heart of the Serengeti. Between July and October, this is one of the best places to see the famous wildebeest and zebra migration. You can also catch the famous Big Five here throughout the year, so keep your eyes peeled for animal action.

Then, continue west and check in for two nights at an eco-lodge nestled in a reserve just outside the park. Later this evening, head out with the hotel’s rangers for a guided night safari in an electric vehicle. What nocturnal species can you spot?

Rise and shine, it’s your final full day in the Tanzanian savannah and there’s not a moment to waste. Head out at the break of dawn this morning for a guided hike to the Grumeti River with a seasoned ranger. Located almost entirely in the western part of the Serengeti National Park, this river is particularly well known for its thriving population of Nile crocodiles, so get ready to snap (sorry) some pictures. Travelling the savannah on foot is a very different experience from being in a traditional safari vehicle, as you create less noise and see animals from a different perspective. Settle in for a delicious lunch on the banks of the river before heading back for one last afternoon of R&R in your beautiful lodge.

Sadly, the time has come to bid the sumptuous plains of the African bush goodbye and embark on the journey home. This morning, you’ll be privately transferred to the airport, where you’ll catch a short flight to Arusha. Take some time to rest up and prepare for your international flight, enjoying a delicious lunch in the lodge you stayed in on your first day.

Take a private transfer to the airport in the early afternoon, whizz back through security and settle in for the 17-hour-plus journey. Flights from Tanzania back to the UK are indirect, so you’ll spend tonight travelling and touch down on home turf tomorrow morning.
