The Ngorongoro Crater, which was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1980, contains one of the most impressive wonders ever created by nature. This vast crater, formed after a giant volcano exploded and collapsed some three million years ago, has since has become an area of lush grasslands that is teeming with life. Visiting the Ngorongoro Crater on a trip to Tanzania offers the chance to encounter all (or almost all) of Africa’s most famous fauna in the heart of the crater. The reserve also contains other extinct volcanoes, which despite being less well-known, are still an impressive sight,
as well as two exceptional paleontological sites: Olduvai and Laetoli.
