Kigelia Ruaha is located within a Kigelia tree grove - from which it takes its name – on the banks of the Ifuguru Sand River, which as well as being a peaceful and secluded spot to camp, is also in one of the richest game areas in the whole of the Ruaha National Park.
There are just six spacious safari tents, each boasting a private veranda on which to while away hours between game drives in blissful solitude, as well as en suite bathrooms with flush toilets and outdoor bush-style bucket showers. Hot (and cold) water comes in buckets on demand, and light is solar powered. Tents are canvas, with large mozzie-netted 'windows' to ensure guests don't miss a moment of game viewing. One tent is set up as a family tent with two en suite bedrooms.
The thatched and open sided dining tent is the setting for delicious meals, though dining under the open sky is certainly encouraged, too. The team at Kigelia can also arrange for a remote bush breakfast, and sundowners in a beautiful spot away from camp. That's about it as far as facilities at Kigelia Ruaha go, but you're not here for a spa tent or bush-view gym - the camp is located in one of the most game rich parts of the stunning Ruaha National Park, where elephants and greater Kudu roam, and guests can falls asleep to the calls of wandering leopards.
Game Drives at Kigelia are the main event, travelling in custom-built open game drive vehicles in search of majestic lions or beautiful sable. Between drives, guests can explore the bush on foot with one of Kigelia's expert guides, or spend down time relaxing at the lodge with a pair of binoculars to catch sight of any manner of beautiful birds that inhabit this part of the park.
