See our selecton of sample itineraries which feature Marataba

Marataba is a 57,000 acre private concession in the heart of the Marakele National Park – a malaria-free wilderness in South Africa’s Limpopo Province. The concession and its two lodges lie at the foot of the Waterberg Mountains, encompassing a terrain of savannah, dense bushveld, winding rivers and deep gorges.

Marataba Safari Lodge offers luxurious, modern accommodation in 15 tented suites that are a blend of canvas and stone. Each suite has its own private deck overlooking the sweeping plains and meandering river below. The main area is designed with glass walls to take full advantage of the panoramic scenery and contains the living and dining areas, a bar, a pool and a library housed in a stone tower offering a birds-eye view of the surroundings. Marataba Safari Lodge is a family friendly lodge and also offers a range of activities and facilities to suit mini explorers.

The beautiful brand new Thabametsi Treehouse is also family friendly and is perfect for a quietier, more private stay. Solar powered and built on two levels, it allows panoramic treetop views of Marakele's lush expanse from its 6m-long Martini Step deck with cocktail in hand.

For adults only, Marataba Mountain Lodge is the more stylish lodge, with panoramic hilltop views and chic Scandinavian inspired décor. Built using natural materials the lodge fits seamlessly into the surrounding landscape and features lots of glass to ensure that the focus is always on the views. There are just five luxurious suites, so this is an ideal choice for those seeking exclusive off grid luxury. In the main area, indulge in delicious cuisine at the restaurant before retiring to the large and comfortable boma for drinks around the fire.

Activities at Marataba include twice daily game drives, walks with experienced guides and even water safaris along the Matlabas River. The Marakele Park is home to all of the Big Five and a multitude of other species including rare antelope such as roan, sable and mountain reedbuck making for a really varied safari experience.
