Franschhoek is such a picture perfect place to stay, that you may want to settle in and stay for longer than a few days. Hell, it’s so nice you may want to bring the family, and friends.

If that's the case, then may we introduce La Clé des Montagnes, an elegant collection of four private villas that can be taken in their entirety.

Interior designed by Sarah Ord, all the villas have swimming pools, verandas, elegant chandeliers and large wood burning fireplaces, and are set in the elegant surroundings of a working wine estate. Needless to say in such a beautiful setting, the views are pretty special and the charming Franschhoek town centre is just a few minutes walk away.

Each villa also has access to a private butler service, and they can also arrange private chefs for the few - if any - meals where you are not tempted to sample the delights of Franschhoek fine dining establishments.

La Grange sleeps six and has been designed to resemble a Victorian Highlands lodge, with solid wood interiors and rollback beds.

Elsewhere, Le Manoir sleeps four and pays tribute to the French Hugenots who initially built the village, with antique furnishings and French linens throughout.

La Galerie also sleeps four and has a far more contemporary feel thanks to gallery lighting and abstract art from the likes of Swedish artist Bengt Karl Erik Lindström.

Finally, Le Colonial sleeps eight and completes the tour of destinations and designs with the emphasis on East and North Africa so expect Moroccan tiles and vibrant African art.

Why We Love It

  • The delightful town of Franschhoek, founded by French Hugenots in 1688, is - as this property's name suggests - the Key to the Mountains, sitting pretty at the foot of Sir Lowry's pass through the Hottentot-Holland Mountains.
