Serian is a wonderfully homely luxury tented camp in Kenya, in a very tranquil setting up high on a river bank overlooking the Mara River in the Mara North Conservancy, with far reaching views of the Oloololo escarpment that marks the western boundary of the Masai Mara ecosystem.
There are seven spacious (and newly replaced) tents with large double beds, writing desks, and adjoining bush bathrooms which include a shower, twin basins, large bush bathtub and flush loos. Each tent has an outdoor decked area looking out over the river below with cushions and chairs to relax in. Despite the obvious luxuries, the camp maintains a traditional safari bush-camp feel and all meals are around a communal table hosted by the camp managers. The "mess" deck and indoor fireplace also add to the homely and intimate feel to camp.
Game drives happen in the Mara North Conservancy and the area opposite the camp boasts 4,000 acres of walking concession exclusively for Serian. Serian is one of the very few camps in Africa that offer clients their own exclusive game viewing vehicle/guide and spotter so there's no need to share with other guests in camp. Flexibility is the name of the game here and the staff are more than happy to send guests off on a game drive with a bush breakfast, lunch or even supper so there's no need to rush back to camp if the drive is fantastic.
The Mara is the staging ground for the annual wildebeest migration, but this is by no means the only lure and other activities on offer include day & night game drives, guided bush walks, bush breakfasts, sundowners and cultural visits. Those with just a week's holiday could do a wonderful combination of Serian Camp, neighbouring sister property Ngare Serian, The Nest and the Nkorombo Mara Mobile camp.
