If you’re going to visit one of the world’s largest waterfalls, then you really should stay within the national park itself, leaving only a short walk to the main attraction.
Cue Belmond Hotel Das Cataratas, the only hotel within in the park itself (on the Brazilian side anyway), which means guests don't technically need to leave the comfort of the hotel to admire the spectacle. The hotel is housed in a colonial style building and has 193 rooms including 16 suites, all of which are elegantly decorated in true Belmond style.
Itaipu restaurant serves both international and Brazilian food, and the Ipê Grill has a fantastic poolside location where a BBQ is fired up in the evenings. There is also a bar that puts on live music.
The main attraction is of course the Iguacu Falls, on the hotel's doorstep. Eco-guides are on hand to take guests on rainforest tours, and other activities include helicopter rides over the falls, white water rafting and abseiling down the gorge. During full moons, the hotel operates special midnight tours of the falls, a pretty magical experience to say the least. There is also a swimming pool - as well as one just for children - a tennis court, spa and gym.
Why we love it
The hotel's tropical gardens are particularly lush thanks to the regular dousing they get from the falls' spray; better than any watering can.
