The Pyramids of Giza – built between 2600 and 2500 BC - lie between the outskirts of Cairo and the vast expanse of sandy desert to the west. A visit to this ancient site offers the chance to explore the three largest pyramids: the Great Pyramid of Giza, also known as Khufu or Cheops, which is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World; the Pyramid of Khafre and the Pyramid of Menkaure; before coming face to face with the famous Sphinx. The grandeur of ancient Egypt is on full display here and it’s hard not to be amazed by the sheer scale of these vast stone peaks and what a feat their creation was some 4,500 years ago.
