The Resort at Pelican Hill is a place where guests can get a feel for the Med – well, in California. By this we mean the design is that of a Venetian countryside estate, with grounds that are filled with olive, fig and pine trees and rows of lavender, wonderfully located along the Orange County coastline.
There is a relaxed atmosphere at Pelican Hill, complemented by the 16th century Italian architecture and advantageous Californian climate. The resort offers 204 bungalow guest rooms and 128 villas, all of which are dotted throughout the tree lined estate. The bungalows boast hand-hewn wooden beams on the ceiling with modern decors and private terraces (some of which have ocean views). Their USP however has to be their deep bath tubs. The villas are a little more exclusive with their own butlers and private access to the clubhouse. Each villa offers two, three and four bedrooms, separate lounge, infinity swimming pool and whirlpool spa.
The restaurants here are pretty top notch and are hosted in classic al fresco settings. Andrea Ristorante & Bar is classic Italian with signature dishes from the North of Italy to make your mouth water (be sure to order fresh pasta). Pelican Grill & Lounge is Californian inspired cuisine, with a laid back feel to it (seafood is a must here). However those looking for causal pool-side dining should try the Coliseum Pool & Grill. Coffee junkies will be pleased to know they can get their daily fix from the quirky espresso bar, which also houses the best gelato outside of Italy.
As a large resort there is plenty for guests to do; novice or pro there are two championship golf courses to sample. The coliseum swimming pool as well as being grand in design is also a great spot to spend at least a day of one's trip, with its private cabanas and food and drink being served throughout the day. Alternatively the resort at Pelican Hill is in a prime location for guests to explore nearby beaches in Crystal Cove and along the Orange County coastline, either by bicycle or a short drive. Orange County is home to a variety of water sports, so guests can surf, go boating, fishing, kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving and even whale watching.
For a little more of R & R the Spa at Pelican Hill won't disappoint. It boasts a Roman style bath, sauna and steam rooms, as well as a wide range of indulgent treatments and massages. For mind, body and soul guests can also partake in wellness classes - no brainer.
This hotel is family friendly with two kid's clubs at camp Pelican, one for teenagers and one for ages two to four. Camp Pelican allows children to be entertained and make the most of their trip, whilst parents enjoy the luxury of some time to their selves.
