‘I’m in love with Montana’ proclaimed American author John Steinbeck and honestly, we couldn’t agree more. In our view, there's no better place to enjoy the ideal Montana lifestyle than at The Resort at Paws Up—the crossroads of unspoiled wilderness and incomparable luxury. This heavenly ranch sits on a lush and sprawling 37,000-acre cattle ranch, providing both adventure and comfort in the American West.
The 28 luxury ranch homes are completely private (thanks to the secluded location and discreet gated chaparrals), while still offering panoramic vistas. Classic in style, they were recently refurbished for the Resort at Paws Up's 10th anniversary. Offering open stone clad fireplaces, wooden floors, worn leather armchairs and marble bathroom fittings they are the perfect offer a luxurious base for exploring all that the Resort and its surrounding area has to offer. Alternatively, the ultimate Western 'Glamping' experience in one of Paws Up's 38 luxury tents, with sumptuous bedding, en suite bathrooms, and vintage furniture, overlooking the confluence of the Blackfoot River and Elk Creek. The tents are grouped into pockets of six, each with its own dining pavilion, making them ideal for group bookings.
The cuisine at Paws Up is a refined take on rustic ranch fare, making the most of fresh local produce. Enjoy a lavish barbeque or sit in the resort's restaurant and taste freshly picked huckleberries on your morning French toast. For a special sweet treat, go to 'Upper Crust' where you can learn to make your own good ol' American apple pie (served warm with vanilla ice cream, of course). There are regular guest chef weekends throughout the year, where guests can learn from the best chefs in America, including former winners of Top Chef and celebrity chefs. The Resort at Paws Up has excellent green credentials, in particular in their restaurants; their culinary offerings are based around a field to fork initiative, their bison and buffalo are raised on the ranch, and they have recently brought all of their (organic) beef onto the ranch as well.
Take a trip to Spa Town, a colony of pristine white tents connected by a wooden boardwalk and cocooned in the pines. This place gives a new meaning to getting 'lost in the woods' with treatments ranging from the before sleep Sweet Dreams massage, to or a 60-minute massage for your favourite four-legged friend.
Adventure junkies will be in heaven at Paws Up, with over 100 miles of trails, 10 miles of Blackfoot River and 1.5 million acres of the nearby Bob Marshall Wilderness Reserve to explore. Paws Up offers the ultimate wilderness playground; guests can enjoy horseback riding, Montana fly fishing, ATV tours, wild swimming, biking, rafting, kayaking, rappelling, hiking, and a high ropes course catering for all abilities and levels of daredevilry. Paws Up is now open year round, so guests visiting during Montana's spectacular winters can enjoy dog sledding with two teams of racing dogs, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and even skijoring (skiing while being pulled along by a dog or horse, a winter water skiing if you will). Plenty to keep busy, then.
Paws Up believes in a total green initiative-they have a special catch and release fishing program, eco-friendly products, organic food and energy efficient lights.
